OT: Will Phil review this camera? (not serious...)

I guess "Kid Tough" means that it is possible for one kid to bang this camera against the head of another kid without hurting the kid or the camera because that is what kids do.

My istD is pretty kid proof (3 and 5 year olds) and wife proof for that matter since she subjected it to a 2 foot drop and everything still works!

The D is a little large for their small hands but they still manage. Here are some examples taken by my kids.

Two-eye viewing which makes it easy to look through the viewfinder;
Sturdy, dual handgrips for a steady shot;
Big buttons that make it easy for little hands to use;
Controls are simple for kids to understand – no reading required;
Best of all, it’s built with a durable, kid-tough™ design.

Additional features include:
Built-in auto flash;
Stores over 60 pictures, with 8 MB built-in memory;
SD memory card slot for increased storage capacity (SD card sold separately);
640 x 480 resolution

...I can use this camera regardless of what 'whatshisname' says about it...

Hi Tracy,

Great link ;D

Cheers,

Jack

MY BLOG.... http://www.nakedmanonawire.blogspot.com

It's amazing what one can do when one doesn't know what one is doing :)

We all know or have kids, and they love cameras. Why not review this, atleast give your kid something that you can make decent 5x7's from you know. If I had a kid I would look into one for him/her if it was worth it.

Hi Tracy,

Great link ;D

Glad you liked it Jack! The commercial shows a kid throwing it down two flights of stairs and then using it. Seems pretty rugged. The colors might put a few buyers off, but hey, it's different choices from silver or black! HA! ;-D

Hi Samc3!

Wow, your child is pretty darn good! You don't need a kid's camera. :-D

I see it can be dropped with no fear of damage. But is it weather
sealed? Is this a competitor to the K10D? hmmmm
I am afraid we now have a real Pentax killer.....
(And N and C for that matter...)
Hi Terry and Janneman!

The commercial shows the camera being thrown down the stairs and then being used. Don't know about the sealing part, but it has to be pretty waterproof to be around kids and still work.

Hey, from the Bandwidth Challenge it's been seen that a picture that's even smaller than 640x480 can look great. I realize the original photo that the bandwidth entries were made from were a bit larger, but then the ones from the FP camera wouldn't have to be reduced. Might not be that bad at all!

Hi Jim!

And a third can take an action picture at the same time! LOL! "Mom! Look I have proof!"

Hi Brendan!

That's why I changed it to 'semi-serious' in the post itself. It's really not that bad of an idea for a product. And for $70, it's not too prohibitive. Don't know if that's too expensive for a 3-4 year old, but for a schoolaged child it wouldn't be. Too bad the colors are aimed at the first group rather than the older group.

My guess is that this camera has an externalized version of the K10D's "hard stop" dust removal system: the kid bangs it in the bricks.

LOL, Tracy that funny that you mentioned this.

My photography buddy gave this camera to his daughter as a gift this year. He & I saw this toy announced about a year ago from FP and thought it'd be a great gift (gag or otherwise). You see his wife & my future Mrs. always complain about the amount of time we spend with our photos. So the joke was to start his young daughter in photography at the ripe age of 3. The look on his wife's face was priceless.

Anyways, its a funny little camera for kids to use. The metering on-board that controls the flash is rather inconsistent and the white balance is always off. But other than that, there isn't too much to complain about. His daughter loves it and runs around taking photos. Her gallery can be seen here:

The funny thing is seeing what the world looks like from 3ft person.

Thanks for sharing that link! I really enjoyed all the cut-off heads. I should spend a day thinking like a 4 year old, I'd probably get a lot more interesting pictures. Might be a little rough on the knees to attempt the right POV, though. :D Some of them are really arresting images, despite the image quality. Do they realise what they've let themselves in for??
