CP995 Battery Charging time

If you have a European version of the charger, it will indeed take a long time to charge. The American version appears to be faster for some unknown reason. However, you could buy the EH-21 charger, which charges the battery in less than 2 hours and can also be used as mains power supply for your camera!

Hi: I have two batteries and charge them alternately when in use. It works out fine. MarcV's suggestion of buying EH-21 is an excellent idea; please do if you could afford it...

Hmmm. That is pretty strange then. Anyway, thanks everyone for the advice.
Mine takes less than two for a full charge. I too bought a second battery for swapping. The other charger sounds like a good investment since it also provides an AC connection converter. I learned that after trying to jam the connector into the camera's AC connection.

Where is a good place to buy that Charger? And how much should it cost? What about where to buy another battery? I am a bit new to this so I am looking for my best options.

I once pointed out to my local Nikon dealer that the US charger charges much quicker than the non-US version. He asked me where I got the info. I replied that I read it on some internet forum. His reaction was "oh, the internet! shouldn't believe too much of that!"...
Like he would now better...

I wonder how many version out there? I am in Hong Kong and supposed mine is the same as yours since they take same long hrs to charge up!

This is all really surprising to me, the batteries that came with my cp5000 and my 995 are both charging in less than 1 hour

Yep, same here. Aussie version, 6+ hrs to recharge. That's why I bought a 2nd batt. This served well on a recent 2-week driving holiday though - each night swapped batt's over and recharged the one from that day. But man, 1.5 to 2 hrs would be great!!!

Nikon has two models of 995. American and European. The american version has a EH-21 charger that work with 6 or 12V (I don't remember). It takes less than 2 hours. The european version (EH-20 charger) has a component that makes 1,5V converter. So it takes about 6 hours. The battery is the same, if you want/need improve, buy the american charger.

Let's compare specs of the chargers. Here in Australia, I got an MH-50 charger with my 995. It has the following details:
Input 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 0.05A,
Output 8.4V -.12A
The batt is a Nikon EN-EL1 with 7.4V 650mAh
Can someone in US (with fast charge time say 1-2 hr) please give similar info so I can compare the specs and hopefully understand the difference?

Power brick is a EH-51
Input 100-240v (47-63Hz) 0.15A max
Output DC 10.5v 0.6A 6.3W max
The little chassis that holds the battery is MH-51
Input DC 10.5V 0.6A
Output DC 8.4V 0.6A
Thats what I got with the 995 in the USA.

Thanks JeffB, OK it looks to me like you guys in the States have a charger that outputs 0.6 A compared to our 0.12 A. Guess that explains a lot! 5 times the output should charge much faster! Now I'm wondering why the difference in specs?

Because Nikon are stingy to Europeans - they charge more money here (proportional to US prices), they give less software (hey I want genuine fractals Nikon...), and now this charger takes 6 hours to charge. Ah man...
