Please DO NOT buy the S5...

I don't think anyone here is discussing the merrits of D100, or S2 for that matter.
If you had used the S3 to take this shot however,
you would have enjoyed a wider gradient map in your clouds with the extended DR,
more details in your shadows, and your highlights wouldn't be blown out...
all this, on a jpeg straight out of the camera.

Then again, it would have never been this sharp, but that's a one button fix with a high pass filter in PS.

No mud here of course and this is indeed a very fine shot. :)

Its reassuring to know you think a Fuji S3 could match this picture. I agree there are a few blown highlights in my pic, but I don't find they detract. I also do still wonder if a Fuji S3 would achieve the same crispness. But of course, without some months using a camera its hard to tell.

I just wanted to make the point that for some purposes the better Nikon cameras are very hard to beat, and that a Nikon as a second body can usefully complement a Fuji camera.

It sounds like you just might be prepared to concede this point? If so, well good for you!

There's nothing in your shot that couldn't be matched by a number of cameras.
Many of which are "good" cameras.
But good for whom, and for what ?
Are you an amateur ? A professional ?

In my case, given the extreme conditions in which I have to photograph my subjects,
no Nikon camera could give me the lattitude and forgiveness of the Fuji S3,
especially when tweaking jpegs in PS.

I have never been bothered by FF or resolution issues, speed or the plastic body which I have banged up pretty hard.
This S5 gives me a lot to look forward to.
But again, that is just my personal opinion.

we can both agree on looking forward to the S5. Meanwhile, I will continue to enjoy using both my S2 and my D100.

The S3 I have been considering, especially now the price has dropped. I am deterred by the flash system, which sounds though it is less reliable than the S2 flash system. I use two SB50dx speedlights wirelessly, and it works a treat for me. I am also deterred by the size of the camera. I use my gear for walkabout photography as well as for my work. The S2 is as large as I would want, and the D100 is just about ideal.

It sounds like the S5 will meet all my needs.
