Heh... I just had a thought... Imagine that camera manufacturers made a special way for the camera to store JPEG thumbnails of ALL photos and videos you've ever taken with your camera to some hidden memory locations inside camera that you cannot see nor manipulate, so if/when some of that firm's people somehow get the hold of your camera they can download EVERYTHING from it and review it all nicely...

(it's like: memory: 32MB, it's empty - completely free memory, says: 29 MB - well some must be taken for drive formating purposes - right; latter: 28.50 MB, 28.49 MB, 28.48 MB, 28.47 MB... ... ... Muaha-ha-ha-ha...)

Let me tell you camera techs could keep their mouth closed about that one. Would be huge disgrace for the company.

Ah, I see what you mean - you mean:

the camera techs should keep their mouths shut, because if camera techs couldn't keep their mouths shut it would be a huge disgrace for the company.
Right?

Yeah, I do it right now. Oh - here is you making faces.
:)
:)
Just kidding.

I believe there is no such control, but I just want to make this concept visible if noone else didn't.

(I mean - it is somwhat posible for camera techs to see your pictures if you don't format your memory (it's like with hard-drives - there are programs that can rescue a file after it was deleted, and then it can be viewed))

:) OK - you're joking on his account, but...

...Well, if it would help track down that sort of people then it would have its excuse for existing, but for the rest it would be just a sort of a violation of privacy.

With digital technology everything is possible - it's just bits and bytes - someone who knows electronics really well can use all sorts of things I guess. Using all resources of your computer... It would be nothing for such person to use bits and bytes coming from your microphone or web-camera, or going through your hard-drive and stuff...

And this about secret memory in camera - it can be easily done (heck - they could even install a completely separate memory! or some kind of LED-like diode that doesn't emmit light but radio waves to broadcast it all) - anyhow there is already a diversion with this reserved memory for MemoryStick formating - they could easily set it to store JPG thumbnails kilobyte by kilobyte until it fills the memory - and then - all of the sudden - OOPS! - look something is wrong with your digital camera (it fakes malfunction) and see - you now need to take it to your local service - voila.

Xerox technicians actually did this with copiers, but eventually they got busted!!!! They installed xerox copiers in government buildings and then designed the drum to make an extra copy. The machines was always falsely breaking down. Not sure how they got caught, but there was a huge stink about it.

Actually, if the technicians really wanted to do something on a grand scale, they would make you install drivers or software on your computer and let that software drive the pictures to their corporate office.

Probably in 20 years or so, technology would be so advanced that chips inside of digital cameras would recognize people in the camera and put the people's name as part of the description. It would also capture the GPS location and add the location information as well.

Then, only a few years after that, then it will be smart enough to know if a crime is taken place or not and alert the authorities.

If you are a hollywood producer, then you would get a license that would exempt you from having the authorities knocking down your door. People in the movie industry would be the only ones to stage fake deaths, etc. lol.

Soooooo... in the meantime, enjoy our Sony's and if that technology ever arrives, take your savings and buy up about 20 Sony H55 cameras... you know, the ones with the 144x telephoto zoom lens, 86mp, that comes with the all-new Memory Stock Invisi - so tiny you can't even see it. They will have to come up with an eye-dropper like device so you can "Drop" the "Invisi" in your camera. The camera will be powered by butane and will have the new "Spider" feature where you press a button, and eight legs comes out from underneath the camera, giving you the ultimate stabilization... better known as CWIS (Charlotte's Web Image Stabilzation).

Don't forget the remote control so you can have your camera walk around the room for you.. perfect for weddings and receptions. It will have the new PTII (People Tracker 2) so that when Bob leaves the room, it can chase after Bob to see what Bob's up to! Wow isn't CWIS wonderful!!!!!

And for the professionals out there, feeling a little sick... with the built-in TGPS (Taxi GPS), you can stay at home in bed while your camera grabs a taxi and makes it to the event for you. With the remote control, you can see everything going on...

PLUS... with the built-in black box feature, it will capture a detailed picture of the person's foot that stomps on your camera... giving you and the police a chance to prosecute anyone who stomps on your camera... including that new epidemic going around... remote camera rage... people stomping the life out of cameras following them around while it's owner is miles away in bed!!!!

Strange sense for humor. (I mean, are you joking or... what?)

All I've said is that it is a possibility...
I mean... ...what?

That is really easy (e.g. exploiting the explanation that formaing takes-up some memory... or by using some internal memory). Thumbnails don't take too much space...

I guess they indeed could easily make drivers that make camera send data via Internet when connected (but not all computers are connected to the Internet), yet it would be more clever to raise the least susspicion possible - to leave the whole issue inside the camera itself as what works must stop to... sooner or latter...

Nothing special about it... (I guess they could easily invent reasons to make it be) ...Why do you have to see it in context of sci-fi (this wild bizzare imagination), conspiracy something or other... It's just possible... nothing else... (I mean - as I said: it is enough not to format the memory and anyone could use a simple program to get it out (even I've been doing it when I change my mind about deleting something)).
