5D warranty repair

The time has come that my warranty is almost up so I need to send my 5D in for repair. It has the black frame problem usually the first shot everytime I use it. I'm just wondering what is the best way about doing this. Should I call tech support first, or just do a request through the sony website. Any urls or phone numbers for doing this would be appreciated.
 
I am in the US, I just went on Sony's website (sorry don't have the url) and filled in the form and received an email with instructions. Sent the camera as instructed to Precision Computer last monday and already got it back on friday afternoon. Sofar the problem has not re-occured.

Wow, that's quickly !!! Mine is allready 7 weeks in repair for the same problem !!! (I live in Belgium - bought my 5D on 19 december 2005 at FNAC-GENT).
 
I was very surprised too. Not only with Precision Camera (I don't know exactly what they did but for sure they either replaced the sensor or the gave it a good cleaning as all my dust spots are gone) but also with UPS, I paid for 3 day delivery and PC received it the next day, PC sent it back on a thursday and I got it back on friday and am sure they did not pay for the fastest delivery either. The repair was so fast it makes me wonder whether they actually repaired it or just cleaned it... Sofar, knock on wood, no first frame problems.

Thanks, I'll try that route also. I did find the form on their website. Hopefully I'll have the same luck you did with a quick return.
 
Luck? I was actually hoping to get a refund so I could buy a 7D... LOL, but maybe I was spared the grief that Santiclaws is going thorugh, see his thread, he bought a 7D with his refund for an unrepairable 5D and the 7D's AF froze. I hope my 5D lasts a long time but also am looking forward to Sony's next 7D "grade" camera.
