According to the site, its the same battery as Minolta's NP-400.
That is a good news to me, as I have 2 spare NP400 for my Minolta 5D

Great! This means I'll still be able to get batteries for my 5D.

That's how you can get faithful & happy customers ( and make money) - and it's not like Sony style (trying maximize earnings with all kind of tricks & make money)

...wireless flash system etc...

Ari
... it doesn' take CF cards

Looking for a home for 8Gb.

D80 - SD, K10D - SD, CF seems to be reserved for Pro & Semi Pro
while SD cards are for the enthusiast market.

The move away from CF cards.. but it does seem to be a trend. However, at the cost of memory these days.... is nothing more than possibly a "nit" to me. I use multiple varieties in my D200 and S3 and one works as good as the next based on my experience.

Personally, Memory type is not an issue that would challenge a decision for me. Digital is a constantly emerging and changing environment. Getting involved in it will always present these types of issues.

Not sure what you are referring to.... but will take a guess....

I think you are inferring that the K10D will not do wireless flash....... Not sure what the "etc." was referring to.......

The K10D "does" have wireless flash capability when using the AF360 and AF540 flash units (and a third party or two). The thing it does "not" have (that the *istD did) is the "in-body" flash capable of working as a "remote flash controller". Both the AF360 and AF540 "do" work as a wireless remot controller in conjunction with the K10D including wireless HS/FP synch flash with all remote units and the on-board unit.

I currently have a D200, S3 and *istD (as well as having owned a KM 7D and 5D). Nikon is long known for excellent flash results and thier iTTL is about as good as it gets in both flexibility and exposure consistency/accuracy. My experience with the D200 and D2H validate that to be true.

The S3 works "well" with the SB800 in exposure consistency (contrary to some thoughts on this - or at least mine does).

My *istD w/the AF360 (wirless or attached) is as good in exposure consistency and rich coloration using flash as my Nikon iTTL - possibly even better. It is "not" as flexible as iTTL though. I fully expect the K10D to be as good at all flash capabilities - using a 360 or 540 as the wireless on-board flash controller - as the *istD. I understand the 540 is excellent and will be acquiring one w/the K10D body.

The KM 7D flash problems with exposure consistency is one of the things that drove me away from KM - and then shortly thereafter they sold out to Sony. I truly enjoyed my 7D (didn't like the feel of the 5D - but it gave good results).

I hope Sony continues on a road that will satisfy all the long time Minolta heritage faithful. You all are great people and I love to visit this forum from time to time...

Final note on flash: Most who are using flash for exceptional capabilities simply do not use the "on board" flash much anyway. So if serious about flash for "expanded results/capabilities", one propably acquire multiple units anyway and use one on the body as a controlller or for some element of highlight.

Keep shootin' great stuff!!! All the best,

Bob

I swear, old gal Pentax is SEDUCING ME ON PURPOSE....I mean US -

The-Minolta-Users-Who-Felt-Abondon-by-Sony & Betrayed-by-Konica. The Pentax K10D reads like our KM-7D (II) wish list 3 months ago:

1. Weather Sealed - check
2. more SSM lens - check (3 upcoming DA supersonic lens)
3. Faster Auto Focus - check (11-point Auto Focus, 9 cross sensitive)
4. better Dynamic Range - check (22 bit Analog to Digital converter)
5. Anti-shake - check (Shake-Reduction)
6. higher megapixel - Done!
7. possible same batter as KM5D

I don't think this is my imagination anymore. Pentax clearly has the Minolta users in mind. The fact that Pentax is also an underdog in SLR world makes it a kindred spirit to Minolta. More importantly, Pentax lens are still affordable like the old-Minolta-I-used-to-know.

BobMax, I thought I was bad shooting with 2 system ( Canon 30D/ Minolta5D); you're much much worst. The fact that you had own them all (one time or the other) makes your OPINIONS MOST VALUABLE IN MY BOOK. Question for you. Is Pentax Flash proprietary? Can I use the Canon 430ex on it? Which model offer the 360* rotation for portrait-orientation bounce flash?
I currently have a D200, S3 and *istD (as well as having owned a KM 7D and 5D).

Profile listed as Fuji S3 Pro, Nikon D200, Pentax *istD, Minolta A-1, Kodak DX6490

They will definitely "seduce" me if nothing comes out of Sony at PMA.

Now, if they'd just seduce us with the 7D like ergonomics, I'd be over there in a heartbeat.

Always have liked the underdog :-)

Hmm, don't think so...
Which model offer the 360* rotation for
portrait-orientation bounce flash?
The FGZ540 does offer full swivel with the bounce but the lower power FGZ360 does not offer swivel at all. Otherwise their functionality is very similar (540 has a slighty easier to use dial). These are the only P-TTL flashes in the PENTAX system but the Sigma EF500 DG Super offers the same P-TTL, HSS, wireless, swivel/bounce control as the FGZ540.... just it's cheaper build and input buttons etc. are not as good.....

The Journey is the Thing

... CF seems to be reserved for Pro & Semi Pro

What card can be used (and used faster acording to dpreview) in the $8 Canon 1DS MKII?

SD

What card can be used (and used faster acording to dpreview) in the $4k Canon 8fps 1D MKII?

SD

What card can be used (and yup you guessed it - it is faster vs the fastest CF) in the Mamiya ZD 22mp camera?

SD

Now tell us again that SD is for the enthusiast market?

Pentax chose the right card to use.

All I can tell you is that the serious Canikon enthusiasts I hear from on a local photo forum are not happy with the switch to SD. I guess it matters whether or not you have a wallet full of CF cards or not. One or two and they can be sold with the camera. Another issue is for photographers who carry more than one camera at a time. They need to have common media for convenience if nothing else. I doubt any speed difference one way or another is critical.

The shape of the piece of plastic used to house the memory chips is of little importance in performance. The top end of each form factor are all about the same speed.

Personally I just find the smaller the card the more annoying they are. My gps uses SD, my P&S is memory stick (full size), my new camera is CF. At least the non cf you don't have to worry about ever bending pins I guess.
