The place I pre-ordered it (in Switzerland - 700€ for the body) says mid-october.
I hope they are right, but I doubt it...

Are you sure about the price? Seems quite cheap. Do you mind telling who you're buying from?

It costs 1119.- CHF (swiss francs) and that's about 700€.

Electronics are usually cheaper in Switzerland than in the rest of
Europe bcs here the VAT is only 7.6%.
If you deduct VAT from your price and from Europe price we still have really large difference... €650 without VAT in Switzerland and €760 in Europe.

Well, what can I say? It's the price of the K10D in this swiss shop (it's usually one of the cheapest here)... I can't compare it with the prices in other shops bcs it's the only one lisitng it for now.

In the same shop the K100D body costs about 480€.

anyway, thank you for pointing out this shop. Look's like it is superb place to buy. Even you add to those prices high VAT of EU countries, you get lower price than getting stuff locally.

And they say Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries ;)

According to posts in another thread, Pentax may not have even
begun final assembly.
Alternately if you place any value on details divulged by posters "with insider information" the conglomerate of contributions paint an interesting (but not very likely) scenario. It appears that the K10D is committed to ship whether the firmware is completed or not even though the user manual has already been written/printed and that thousands of bodies have been produced and are unpackaged waiting to be hand flashed with the final BIOS. ;-)

The word I got at Photokina was 4 weeks (that was one week ago).

The firmware is ready in terms of functions and operations, what Pentax are doing now is trimming the image processing algorithms. The prototypes at Photokina had v0.2 in them, but that was a very old firmware from spring this year. Pentax was at v0.6 in August (Pentax Scandinavia has a K10D with v0.6 firmware, I guess other distributors have one too, or one with even later firmware) and are now finishing things up. My guess is their reason for putting their oldest firmware in the K10D prototypes at Photokina show was that v0.2 was the easiest to block some functions with (like reading/writing to the memory card). Pentax are way beyond v0.2 "in house", but they haven't released this firmware to prototypes outside Pentax.

Take care

Roland, what does "trimming the image processing algorithms" mean?
As in fine tuning, a riduculous time in the development process to be doing IQ tuning if you ask me.

I have preordered the K10D, and my dealer says to me that it should be delivered on mid october, or a few days later (in france), for 860 € body only.
