I know a few of you are using leica/ zeiss/ zuiko glass on you kodaks.

how hard is focusing andi presume you use them like the old preset lenses, focus wide then shut down?

anyone using the chipped mounts that enable focusing, i don't see as well as i used to.

manual metering i presume?

getiing out of canon, minimal pro work anymore and still think the IQ significantly below the kodak so will get rid of virtually all my canon stuff, listed on FM.

keeping my slr/c and will go either leicaflex/dmr but am leaning to the M8. with such a bad shoulder and back the small size and light weight bring happy thoughts. i started with RFs.

any feedback?

saw your images, thanks

my eyesight is not great and i've struggled with the focusing on my slr/c when manual. don't think the screen is the best for manual focusing.

turns out to be a dumb question though, i should just work manually with my canons and see how they are.

thanks

Greetings Bill,

I hate to change the subject or hijack the thread but what is wrong with canon gear. I have a slr/c along with 1dsmk2, 1dmk2, d200, d70s and a digital rebel. I'm using my slr/c very seldom now (mainly iso 6) if I need resolution and clean file 1dsmk2 is a clear winner for high speed and high iso I go with 1dmk2 and in betwen and macro shots I use D200/1dmk2/d70s/drebel. As I recall you have a 5D which is a great/light camera with tons of lenses available but, pardon me for asking you why whould you want to make such a drastic change?

Best regards,
Garen

Who says it can't be done?

SLR/C's focus screen is extraordinarily large in size, it's very hard to find another one. But the indicaton is really great.

I know a japanese pro who uses contax lens with 1DS for portraits.
He charges $3000-$5000 for each photo.

It really takes some pains to master the manual focusing, but it is not very difficult indeed. It takes time.
Hope you enjoy the European lens.

Things are shaking out as follows sorry but this will not be short.

history, i'm old military and have had 7 knee surgeries including 2 reconstructions on my right knee, a left shoulder reconstruction, two spinal neurosurgeries and a spinal reconstruction, viet nam era.

was to go to Utah and AZ for holiday this year and was unable to carry my kit which typically included prime body, 24-70L, 17-40L, 12-24, 50 1.4, 24L tse 70-200L 1.4x, also an IR modified body. tripod, filters, meter.

I am physically unable to carry this. the glass far outweighs the bodies.

i did a 30 year review of where i started what i shoot etc. professionally and personally. Seems the professional side counted on much of the special glass and the personal side was much more 28 50 100 oriented and accounted for 95% of my shots, except for floral.

I decided to make changes.

the Kodak SLR/c properly used for my work easily outperforms the 5D in IQ, quirky, slow, but the images are stunning. fwiw i believe the AA filter used in almost every 35mm based design degrades detail, microcontrast, color and contrast. The leicas do not have an aa filter.

I'm looking to both simplify and lighten. While the Canon 5D is certainly a fine camera with which i've produced fine art photography.

the decision to go leica RF is spurred by both size, weight and looking at the files which are soooo like the kodak so this works for me and i started out with RF cameras. I can have a bag with body 3 lenses equal to the weight and size of a 5D with the 24-70 covering ~ 28 - 100.

the choice between the kodak and canon is both IQ motivated and economics motivated. the 5D is current, hot and will sell at a good price, more than the Kodak. The advantages of the 5D, speed, iso, user friendly, are not important to me.

I have never denigrated the 5D and IF i were still a working pro i could not let it go. I think it is a super camera. For the odd jobs i still do the kodak is fine. and for my personal floral work the better IQ makes a difference.

kindly

Well, I think that adapter with indicator chip is not necessary.
Rather, split screen is better choice.

The problem is that you need to make the screen by yourself.

canon Ec-b and Leica R focusing screen can be used with some modifications.

When you use the maual focus and aperture priority, make the aperture value on camera(not on the lens) the widest one (f1.0, maybe) to get right exposure.
