Went and shot a football game today, returned and plugged in the USB cable to download photos. Got "No camera was found" message from Canon's Camera Window app (Macintosh). Tried different ports and cable.

I recently installed the Mac OS 10.4.8 update. Did this hose me?

--Try going to "Menu" - "Communications" then check the setting. It should be "Normal" in a 20D, I think. I doubt it would be different for the 30D.

Most people just buy a card reader and download that way. That's why I don't know the communication setting, and I can't locate my book right now.

Go to the camera Menu and to Communication and set it on PTP. Turn off the camera, plug in the USB connection and then turn on the camera. iPhoto will open and show the number of images for import. It does not use the Canon software.

I agree...get a reader and save your battery power for shooting.

The error message is a good sign! - the camera is 99% okay and there are comms between camera and computer.

You'll have to re-install the camera driver - I think your upgrade has wiped out the driver (switch to Windows if you don't want to have any reliability issues)

Boky

PS

The Windows thing was a joke...

Problem solved. I had to install the Mac OS 10.4.8 COMBO (standalone) updater. Now my Canon 30D is properly recognized by Canon's software, and my Dual G4 MDD Power Mac goes properly to sleep with the IOgear USB 2.0 PCI card installed.
