Let there be Light: New Images!

You've got some very good shots in that collection. The sharpness of the butterflies blew me away. Since I didn't see a tripod in evidence, I'm assuming they were handheld? You have been productive during your absence!

My favorites were:

The "thinking" hummingbird was definitely priceless.

My only comments would be regarding the two "backlit..." ones:

On the leaf, I think cropping the out of focus stuff in the upper right foreground would direct more attention to the leaf. In the other one, I would clone out those three areas of white light on the right side, which are distracting.

Gorgeous, Jim!

Just got home from a long, hard day (and evening) at work, and what a neat gallery to greet me. The country road, the butterflies and the hummers were my favorites. How do you get so close to hummers?

thanks for a treat.

Hey Gang,

Seems like things have cooled off here at the Olympus Talk Forum.
I have certainly missed you guys and gals. While I was away, I did
manage to take a few images

Hey Sandbox.

Great to see you back. I've been sick and the weather's "fowl" overhere. Didn't shoot any quackers lately. You sure know how to make a comeback! That's an awesome bunch of pictures you got, gotta love the titles too! ;-)

Great shots there Jim. I especially like the detail on the butterfly and the road looks like my kind of place if I can't be on the golf course.

Can't add much to the praise already offered. Good work. I like Paper Kite for color and composition. I like Close Neighbors for the texture and the play of light. I like 'em all. Much variety. Many modes of seeing. Your eyes were open wide.

Mary,

Thank you very much! I'm going back to the originals now to make those recommended changes. I certainly agree! Keep the criticism coming...this is what I need to make that next step on my journey to taking better pictures.

With much appreciation,

Jim

Hey Gang,

Rather than respond to each post, please let me just thank you all for the encouragement and kind words. Criticism and validation are very much needed at this point. It really helps to know what worked and what flopped! I appreciate each and every response and look forward to more of the same in the future.

With appreciation,

Jim

Yo Sandbox, next time throw in a crappy one so buzzy'll have something to nag at. ;-)

Seriously, keep them coming. I enjoyed looking especially since the weather's too bad to get any shooting done myself.

Maxven,

LOL! Thanks Maxven. Hope you are feeling better today. The bad weather can't last forever (can it?) Keeping my eyes focused on spring so I don't go stir crazy too! But I am amazed at how much there really is to shoot when there is apparantely nothing to shoot! (Does that sentence make any sense at all??? If so could you explain it to me!!!!)

Off to scratch in my,

michel,

Bob is referring to my childish behavior in the naming of one of my images. Check out the name of the image of the hummer with his tongue sticking out. If you were around here last weekend and read all of the negative posts this caption will make sense. ;-)

Glad you liked the pics,

Jim

Wow, very nice shots Jim. It's a colorful gallery too. Looks like a beautiful Spring day in many of them. Seems like it was a fun excursion.

Hey Jim. Welcome back. : ) I was just thinking of you a couple of days ago when we were all posting "Best of 2001".

You took some really nice pictures. I especially like "morning rays", "road with canopy", "morning prayers", "close neighbors", as well as "forgiveness". You've really captures the beauty of creation in many of these shots. Keep it up.

Welcome back. It's good to see you here again.

Brian,

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate the invitation to submit a gallery to your best of Olympus 2001 showcase. My twelve best images of 2001, hmmm, not sure I took 12 good images last year! Let me see what I can find.

Thanks again,

Jim

Thanks Gary,

But looks can be deceiving....the Spring Day was in an indoor, environmentally controlled Butterfly Conservatory at Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, Georgia. If I saw these flowers and birds outside right now......well let's just say it would be a SIGN (you know what I mean????)

Thanks for your compliments.

Sandman "hmmm, not sure I took 12 good images last year!

Whatcha talkin' about ??? If I were in your shoes I'd have a heck of a time picking the 12 I wanted. You are far too critical of your talents... you have LOTs of good images to choose from! Wish I had your problem!! (hee hee)--Doreen

Thank you, Jim, you know, it's becoming an habit for me to ask Bob when I don't understand some jokes (as I am French, it's not always easy), because Bob was kind enough to answer already. I thought Paul Stone might be some popular person, or something like that. The reason why I don't know him is that I use to run away from negative threads.
Glad you liked the pics,
I really did. I am now somewhat sorry I did not tell you then, but I think how embarrassing it must be to receive lots of compliments, so I don't usually do that with people in the forum I have not been in contact with previously. I will dare now, but please don't feel forced to answer. Just know you are, with Bob and some others at this forum, theese whose I read the posts as often as possible, for the quality of the advices and pictures.
Michel.

michel,

Thank you very much for your kind words. I cannot speak for all, but I am not embarrassed to receive positive (or negative) comments on my pictures. I enjoy sharing them and like to hear what people like and don't like. I am always amazed that my favorite image in a series is almost never the favorite of the group.

Again, thanks for your kind words and do not hesitate to express your opinions here.

Jim

Jim,

Man, you've got SKILLS! I think you shine the most outside of the controlled environment, particularly (for me) in Canopy, Winter Reflections, and Streak of Green.

Seriously, I don't think there can be much criticism of your technical ability. All of your shots are pretty, but I found that those three offer more to think about.
I'll be looking for more of your shots in the future.
