Just to update on what happened concerning the other photographer who stressed me out big time on a wedding I did a few weeks ago.

I finished the images and had conversations with the bride, I posted the images on my host website before she got the proofs, which I normally like to give them in person before I post the pictures, where she was blown away with them..

I thought that my confilct with her uncle was going to be a deal killer with her. However she emailed me a number of times on how amazing the pictures were and was super nice.... wow..

So I proceeded to give her an apologee for my words and explained to her how I felt and why I lost it.. She took it really well and said she had no idea her uncle was going to take all those pictures.

At anyrate she is gald I said something and is raving about my work to her friends and family and workmates, so what I thought was going to be a dissaster for my reputation turns out to be a lot of good PR> >

She said her mother wished she had those kind of pictures for her wedding, too, and I thought the mother was really upset with me.

Here are some sample images on my front page and then click on galleries to the second page to see more.j

Nice photos!

However,

In Firefox 1.5.0.7... Is there supposed to be a navigation arrow or anything else which will allow me to continue to the next gallery page? The only way I could find to change pages was to continuously click on the "Wedding Galleries" link in the top bar, and I only found this after becoming frustrated at the lack of "Page 2" you were referring to in your original post and randomly moving the mouse over the menu bar.

This is extremely bad, from a web design perspective.

thanx,

I am trying to get this thread removed..
sorry to bother you people

Hey i remember your thread froma while ago. Im glad to hear everything worked out well for you. I like your pictures of the wedding, though its not my style on how you presented them, but thats just taste. You do have really nice work. On a purely suggestion note look at your site more carefully, i got into your rates page and the buttons that link through out the site didnt work.

Your work reminds of Ryan Joseph. I was in attendance at a wedding he did and was in awe. http://www.rjphoto.com/toc.htm go to his site and look around its really functional and works really well. everything just flows together. If you go to his portfolio, then weddings 3 and scroll all the way to the right you will see some of the pictures of that wedding. to be specific, pictures three, four and five from the right hand side all the way to the end. This wedding was featured in a national mag. I think you have the same, or near same talent level your site just needs improvemenet.

well done though, again great pics.

Ryan

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to provoke you, but this is just my observation considering the following two statements made by you.

You seem upset just because nobody is posting. In any forum there are many more lurkers than posters.

Then there is this one.

No one said you were bothering them. You need to relax. Life is too short to get worked up by little things.

The comments on your web page weren't meant to offend you if that is what's wrong. People were just commenting on the diffeculty of navigation. I noticed the same thing as well. It would take very little work to correct this problem.

As for the photos of the wedding they were great. The bride has every reason to love them. If Uncle Bob or Aunt Sue want to take photos let them, they can't hope to produce photos with the same quality of yours. If Uncle Bob gets in the way tell him. If he's setting off your strobes, use radio triggers, they're not that expensive.

appreciate the comments.

I just went to my "ratres" page and clicked on all the buttons on the bar, and they all work fine.

I don't understand why some people are having a problem navigating?

Could it me that some browsers work differently?

I don't think it so much that the buttons don't work, after spending a little time I was able to figure out how to navigate. Perhaps just make the site more user friendly. For instance to get to the next page have a "next" button.

If it helps I'm using IE 6.0 on Windows XP.

Yes different browsers do work differently and even the same browser on different platforms (Mac, Windows, nix) all have their own way to display a web page.

If you want any help with your web site (if you are indeed doing it yourself) post back (I do not have access to my email in my profile right now) I do not mind giving a hand.

What did you have in mind..
I really need the ability to change things quickly myself.
I know it's not fancy, but I'm not crazy about flash and like the way
I display my images.

Yup, had 250 view my website yesteday from and and got two comments..

that's why I want this thread off!

If you want you can email me at culver.c at gmail dot com to talk more about it. Rather then bumping this thread.

Craig,

I went to your page and I did like the photos, particularly the shot of the couple dancing with overhead light blasting down and bouncing off the bride's shoulder to light the groom, and the couple on the park bench. Anything in B&W with a lot of rim light! I'm sure the bride thinks they are the prettiest she has ever looked in a picture and it's no surprise she wasn't mad at you.

The navigation of your site was confusing to me and I will try to be clear about what gave me trouble. It is not any browser-specific issue, instead it is your navigation design. The biggest issue is the "more galleries" link in the navigation bar at the top of every page. Depending on which page you are jumping from, this link can take you to the home page (!), or to a page named http://crogersphotography.com/gallery%202a.html (BTW that escaped space character is a stylistic mistake in URL naming), or to the linked wedding http://crogersphotography.com/page3.html , or to various other gallery pages.

That is confusing because it is just not how navigation is done. The fixed "nav bar" at the top of the screen should take you to the same pages no matter where you are when you click on it. Conceptually it is like a table of contents that is always visible and it should be the same table of contents no matter what. You need a separate "next" and "previous" link on each gallery page. Clicking "galleries" (not "more galleries") should take us to a galleries index page with links to all the galleries. And then you need a separate "next" and "previous" link on each gallery page.

Other issues: your "recent weddings" page links off to a different website with different design and navigation; that is not ideal. Depending on the browser and screen size, the "recent weddings" nav bar link may word-wrap so "weddings" is on the second line, which is black text on a black background, not good. Instead of a "home" link the standard practice is for the "Rogers Photography" logo to be the link to home. The mailto: link you use for "contact" will not work for many people's webbrowsers; a webform would be nice. It would be logical to rename all your pages to something meaningful instead of page2b.html, page5.html, etc.

Please do not add any Flash to your site. I am appalled at how many photographers go Flash crazy. It is an obnoxious technology and it makes editing your site much harder.

Lastly, don't freak out when 250 people visit your web page and don't leave comments! Can you imagine how noisy it would be if everyone left a comment about everything they checked out on the web? It's normal for people to read 100x more than they write.

thanks for the tips on the website.

I know very little about website design, as you could tell.

I should put more effort into reworking it, but I am afraid that I will really screw it up and have to spend gobs of time, which I don't have with all the other things I have going on right now.

I use this sitespanner software that is basic where I don't need to know hmtl code. forget that.

I prefer to keep the site simple, so I can easly change info myself, quickly when I want to.

I did not start out on the right footing, that's why the navigating is some what bogus.

when the wedding season slows down i will try and make some needed changes.

thanks,

craig
