Ebay filters from HongKong. Legit?

I have purchased Kenko filters from Hong Kong. The only minor problem was that delivery was a little slow – I think it was about 1 ½ week or so. No problems otherwise.

I also found many filter sellers from Hong Kong in ebay and they can price much lower. I am sure you will get the filter. The problem is whether you are getting an authentic one or not. Also, how easy would it be to distinguish between the real one from the rest? I would like to hear from those who have experience. Thanks.

Are the filters on Ebay listed from Hong Kong legit?

I am thinking not.
why do you think that, and which sellers are you talking about?

all of them?

are you painting with a broad brush out of fear and inexperience?

if you are saying all filters from hong kong on ebay aren't legit that's a foolish statement.

There will always be the odd fraudulent seller or counterfit product but word gets around fast (ie Sandisk CF memory).

If you're unsure then ask here about a product you're thinking of buying.

Some filters are priced cheaper for very good reasons ie. the Kenko Pro 1 D filters are aimed at their local market only (no English text on packaging) and don't have the hiked prices for international sales (which are branded Hoya).

Sure I've got a photographic memory...... just needs developing!

not only the filters, but the DSLR cameras and lenses are much more cheaper than in North America.

the guy has 6053 transactions and a 99.5% rating. either he's fooled lots of people or he is legit.

i am a seasoned ebay buyer and seller. plus i buy and sell watches all over the world.

i would buy from this guy without hesitation if he had the item i wanted at the price i wanted.

from what i've seen when it comes to camera equipment it really is the new yorkers that you have to be wary of :).

I have use them (for a B+W 77 mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizer Slim Glass Filter) and received exactly that! I would buy from them again in a heart beat!

Delivery slow. Price good. Buys patience.

http://www.maxsaver.net is also eBay's 'hkdirect' and 'besteastern'. Direct prices are just a bit cheaper than through eBay, but the service is the same. I've purchased 5 B+W filters from Maxsaver this year, and everything has been perfect. Shipping to my home in FL has taken 7 business days. There are other vendors, I'm sure, but Maxasver's prices have been competitive, and the shipping, @ $10, is very reasonable, too.

yes, i agree, they are legit. sometimes slow. once i mentioned i was in a huge rush for vacation and it came pretty quickly though.

some of the others, the ones with crazy prices where they list only 60%of besteastern's prices are not legit though.

although if allow global ebay search you will see virtually ever legit 300 2.8 sale copied and put up for 'sale' for a certain seller from China, tends to add flowery stuff around the borders of the stolen ads.
there are tons of scams on the chinese ebay section.

I've bought 77mm UV and CPR filters from HK for my 17-40. They seem the real thing (I think!), service and delivery were good. However, I have been told by several people who have worked there that HK is the counterfeit capital of the world, so make sure the seller has 99.5%+ rating on eBay.

OKay.. back from the dead

Well since I need a few filters, I figured Ebay was my best bet. Besteastern AKA maxsaver, has such great prices I find it hard to believe. I was going to place an order but surfing around the maxsaver site I see... fake .. LV wallets and bags. This IS NOT a good sign. To top it all off.. no where in any of their descriptions did they say the LV are knock-offs. Very misleading.

So how many of you after several months of use with these filters think they're real? Any new findings or are the filters 100% legit in your mind?
