Hi Little Pooter:

I was in The Sony Store today in the Pickering Town Centre and they had a part # and a price of 89$ Canadian, but it would be a special order as they won't stock them, they are available.
Don.

Hey Pooter,

They have been scarce since the beginning of December. Other canadian members here tried to order them back then and were told over a month wait. Some stores like Future Shop, Henrys, Sony Store or other local auth Sony retailer may have the stock number and are willing to order it with a depo but becareful cause the demand is a lot higher than the supply and the wait can be longer than expected.

Go thru the yello pages first and call everyone if you already havent done so. good luck--cheersZip:P - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -BFS: NOSticker Status: ON...but on upsidedownPie Chute: UnCorked Lens Cap: No dangle at any angle - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Thats curious, I was in the Sony Store in Square One in Mississauga and the guy just gave me a blank stare...said he never heard of such a thing. Then he searched through his catalogues and database, and told me they must not be available in Canada. He then went on to tell me that the Remote Tripod was $900 cdn!
Its hard to find good help nowadays.

Thanks for setting the record straight Don. I'll try a different Sony Store and order it..

They are listed on Sonystyle at both US and Canadian sites. Reference RMDR1. I purchased from the Canadian site in mid December and received it within 3 days. Was shipped from east Toronto if I remember correctly. Cost $89.99+tax - free shipping!?!

Have to commend Sonystyle on very efficient transaction, including email confirmation of order and full shipping details.

Sorry that I didn't respond earlier...

I ordered from Sony Style Canada a few days ago and received it in 2 days. I actually picked it up about 45 minutes ago and now have to work all day with it sitting in my computer bag, taunting me...

Same model and price mentioned below.

Thanks everyone, I will consider ordering it from Sonystyle. I have a real problem paying list price for anything...especially Sony's list prices! Its just against my principals, but on this one I suppose I have to bite the bullet and do it. The free shipping is nice at least.

See ya.

I feel exactly the same way. My friends tell me that as a loyal Canadian I should be proud to pay inflated retail prices!?!

RMDR1 is listed on USA sites for about US$49 if you feel strongly enouigh. In my own case I do not want to sweat the small stuff and usually will buy locally until the total saving from US a source approaches the hundred dollar Canadian mark.

To be fair, I should mention that I bave been reliably informed we are not really being ripped-off, because Canadian Retailers have to pass on the cost of legitimate higher Canadian import duties.

I understand your point of view. I too have recently passed up the apparent savings of cross-border shopping. Last year, I purchased my 505V from the U.S., and all went very well, shipped fast, complete sealed box, saved a bundle, but I just recently realized that I had a Overseas camera with no canadian warranty. Luckily I never needed any service. But I hate to think that I'll be left out to dry if something goes wrong.

This year, I couldn't be bothered searching for legitimate deals on the 707 in the US. It seemed that any good prices were grey market. I figured that "time is money", so I saved time and went to FutureShop and picked one up with a $1599 price match. One hour later, and I was home taking pictures, no waiting for delivery, or wondering if it will arrive and be legitimate, or backordered etc etc.
I love this camera, and its nice to know that I have local warranty support.

Besides, in Canada, you can go to just about any store and get a 707, no waiting, in stock. Instant gratification.

Are you happy with the remote?

See ya.

Are you happy with the remote?
Yes, very happy!

Have several Sony products, and purchase Sony becaue of the design and engineering, DESPITE the best attempts of SALES/SERVICE/MARKETING/ETC to seriously p*ss me off.

Small point with the remote. It comes with short but adequate lead. There is a message thread you could search on this thread giving information about connection specifications for extending the cable using Radio Shack components.

Local Radio Shack on Ottawa gave blank look when I asked for it, but did sell me an extension for $7.99 which was in fact a cell phone headset extension cord but worked fine.

Only disadvantage was it was a coiled format, but at least will stop me tangling it around the tripod and bringing everything crashing to the ground at a critical moment.

Regards

Roy in Ottawa.
