Please excuse my newbie wonderings, but is it possible to copy pictures back onto my D-40?

It has the tv out mode and I would like to use that in places that don't have computers to show large groups of people my pictures. (family sitting around the tv after a vaction)

Can you just paste jpg's into the directory that you open to copy from?

My father does that with his D-510. He uses his USB card reader to copy the photos back to the cards so he can show them on a TV. He tried copying photos which came from other sources, but so far, the camera only displays photos that originally came from the camera and haven't been modified.

Maybe there is a way to manipulate images from other sources so they have the same properties as camera generated photos.

You should be able to, I would think. Haven't tried it on the D40, but being that the images are all coming from the D40 I'd think it would. Not sure how it would handle a rotated image.

Just give it a try and find out. It won't hurt anything. I would, but I'm at work and can't do it right now.

does the D-40 have USB autoconnect? with the C700 i am simply pluggin the camera to the computer and i can see it as a hard disk..then i can remove photos from the card or add some if you want, just like i would do on a regular hard disk.

If you don't have that then you can buy a smartmedia card reade/writer to do this easily.

For TV viewing, there is Iomega Fotoshow, recently discounted to about US$140. You can download images directly from SmartMedia/CompactFlash card to Fotoshow, or upload images from Computer to Fotoshow, and display them on TV.

Thanks for the link. I forwarded it to my father. He was thinking of just taking a photo of the other pictures he wanted to use in a slide show, but this method looks like another good option.
