More Pentax UK woes

I'm looking to buy a 12-24 lens

Afer contacting my dealer I find that Pentax UK do not hold stock of this lens, and it will take approximately 2 weeks for them to get one!

WTF?

Sigma 10-20 is starting to make more sense

I know I'm the first to complain about this kind of thing, but I would recommend buying from BH Photo - I've done it, the lens was here within 5 working days and I still saved money

If your dealer doesn't carry stock why give them the business?

Not wishing to jump to Pentax UK's defense unnecessarily but as I understand it central stock for Europe is held by Pentax Germany. And I thought Pentax UK had done a deal with Intro2020 as their new distributor. Surely it is the distributor's job to arrange stock for distribution? They should be doing what it says on their tin!

Look to mainland Europe, you'll be able to get it within a few days and significantly cheaper. No import duties or VAT as it is already paid and full proper warranty. I paid £460 including shipping for it from Germany. Try http://www . technikdirekt . de

I paid VAT, 17.5% + £40 + there delivery fee

But because they are soooo much cheaper, it still worked out cheaper

I don't mind, but then again, I'm not that important

Any ideas what the "competitive" price for the K10D will be? Is it going to be competive with UK prices (ie not good), Europe prices (mildly better) or rest-of-world prices (ideal)? Right now, I'm looking at getting a friend in Australia to buy it and send it to me. Would probably still work out cheaper (judging by the prices of most electronic items here...)

Hi, it seems that SRS deal direct with Pentax UK, not Intro2020, and they find Pentax UK very helpful. They carry the full range of lenses listed by Pentax UK. This does not include the 35mm f2 unfortunately!

It may well be that some of the irritation with Pentax UK is misdirected and it is really Intro2020 who are not geared up to suppling the specialist outlets, they seem to specialise in the high volume outlets.

I urge you to support the UK specialist stores if at all possible!

I noticed that you've got the K100d on your site for £439 (the cheapest price in the UK at the moment). Does this include P&P, because I couldn't make out from the website whether it does? Also, your T&Cs state that you'll only send to the billing address of the customer - do you allow for any flexibility in this, since I'm a student living away from home and my billing address is my home address but obviously I want the camera sent to me! I'm enthusiastic about helping out small independent businesses so I'd like to buy from you.

Hi there,

We are one of the very few dealers that do deal with Pentax UK directly (I think we now may be the only one, but I could be wrong - apart from Tescos and Asda etc)

We have traditionally had a close working relationship with Pentax - dealing direct has its advantages as we can get product reasonably quickly(!) - we aim to carry most things from stock, and we do a full range of A Grade products which are generally returns reboxed (we are the only UK dealer to do this)

Right! That's enough of a plug for us... K10D street price? An 'educated' guess would be £600-£650 for the body, but I think that they have not yet fully made up their mind on this as of yet. (The RRP is £699 for the body I am led to believe)

I have already placed a large order with Pentax and should hopefully have them as soon as they do... I have presold 6 so far.

Postage is £6.99 - if ordered before 3 we can get it to you next day.

Since this isn't an advertising board. But it is good to know about an independent UK shop, selling stuff for decent prices...

The special price code for DPReview people might be a good idea. Or a discount for "DPReview sent me" people...

But perhaps that's my wallet talking...

Chris, from previous posts has just emailed me with their latest price, which is also on their website.

It is £599 for body and £699 for body and kit lens.

Good on him. A decent UK supplier. He'll be getting my order, and my friends one as well.

So, all I can say is that this forum has helped us in the UK to get a good price. I would say, no more woes.
