Been a two month user to olympus (and DSLRs), I was really concerned with the talk of no new gear.

But now with the announcement of the sigma lenses, I am very content with my purchase ( E-500 2 lens kit, though I want to replace the 14-45 with the 11-22 and the 50mm prime)

So to celebrate, I bought an FL36 ( gave up on the built in flash for fill flash, thats all I used it for and its very limited, especially with the 14-45. COuldnt justify the extra 150 for the FL-50 though.

I am waiting for Olympus to come out with an upgraded version of the FL36, or another vendor to make a comparable flash. Right now, I just use a automatic flash (non TTL) with my E-300.

Both on the nephew and the flash. I don't use flash a lot, and also decided on the FL-36. It's a decent enough flash for those occassions where you can't get around using a flash.

And yes I have used the Olympus FL-50, the SRF-11, and the STF-22, and the FL-36 is a very good flash (as long as you aren't requiring quick recharging).

I wanted the FL-36, but no-one, local or mail order, had one when I needed it urgently a few months ago. I ended up with the Metz 44AF4-O. I'm very happy with it. It has the FP function too, (though I've not tried it yet as I have no need. The Metz is a good alternative to the FL-36.

I went back on forth on purchasing an economic lense or the FL-36. I recently purchased the FL-36 and I am very happy. I could not justify economically the doubled price for the FL-50, unless I was a professional photographer. Just my humble thoughts on this matter.

Peace and blessings,

Azeke

also, I needed a good flash since I have a ton of baby pictures to
take soon, my sister is due in 2 weeks. Will have a nephew!
Congrats, but a "standard" warning about flash and babies -- not the best combination for their eyes. Use available light when possible. If you're going to use flash, bounce it, don't aim it straight at the little tyke.

Having used the FL-36 for a while, I'll echo this! The only reason I opted to upgrade to the FL-50 was the recycle time.

While I do really like my FL-50, the 36 is certainly no slouch. Quite a capable flash in a nice, small packgage!
