There is a good deal of at least casual interest in this camera, and a lot of different price points have been thrown around. Just curious to get a feel for peoples' predictions here.

Not what you think the camera SHOULD be sold at (although if you want to give your opinion on that too that would be fine ;-) ), but what you predict the actual price will be.

With the price of the SD14 now known (and a bit on the high side of people's expectations), I don't think the DP1 will be priced anywhere near typical P&S.

I think the overall package is better than the Ricoh GR-D, which has a MSRP of $699. So I'm thinking around $800 or $900 for the DP1.

I simply don't think Sigma can profitably sell it for less (even without a hotshoe or viewfinder), since it is a niche camera. For me, that probably means I will have to scrounge for one on EBay in 2 or 3 years...but regardless I will try to buy one.

So please, guess away!!

$599-$699 - or - the same as Pentax K100D kit - otherwise they are not going to sell many...

A big sensor, fixed lens (pity about the f4 aperture!), manual controls and compact body.
Cant wait to see the price and the performance data.

Given the radical overpricing of the SD14, I'd guess $899 US.

I can pay something around 500€.

(I would be willing to pay a bit more if it would be my perfect dream compact camera, but it isn't)

Maybe it will cost more, then I would have to wait...
 
If this camera is implemented as well as the Ricoh GRD, I think it will be worth a $1,000 because it has the one thing the Ricoh lacks, a large (low noise, high dynamic range) sensor. It must have an excellent low distortion lens. A hot shoe doesn't mean much to me but it does create many new possibilities without adding much to the price, so why not?

The combination of a quality image from a small package has always appealed to me and I congratulate Sigma for taking this on.
I will be watching its development and saving my money.

I suggest 1000 Euro in Europe, and 1000 dlrs in US - I think there is a relation between DP1 and sd14 prices.

Both rather expensive ... maybe time to focus on developing photogaphic skills while waiting for prices to drop :-) I bought a Macbook when it hit the market. Now I wish I'd waited for the second generation, but that's now....

Based on the current photos and information, this camera is significantly less sophisticated than a GR-D (no accessory shoe or finder, no phase detect AF assist, no lens with very low distortion and I'm sure some other stuff I'm leaving out. But by using a larger X3 sensor and a not so exotic 16.6mm f/4 lens, the DP1 occupies a similar niche and should make superior images.

So I'd position it as a "poor man's" GR. And pricie it at around $500. Face it, it looks like about $50 worth of camera wrapped around a great sensor. So you sell the thing cheap just to get the X3 sensor out there. That gets more people exposed to X3 image quality which should get more people interested in Sigma DSLRs.

And if the DP1 uses a lot of the same electronics as the SD-14 and if they can sell enough of them, they can realize higher overall profitability on the SD-14 via reduced parts costs.

Anyway, that's my idea. But so far none of the camera makers seem to be embracing my camera ideas. So it'll probably be $999 and sit on shelves gathering dust. Wait, scratch that. It'll never get shelf space.

DP1 is designed to get people to know X3 IQ; a step to SD14.

I think that's a great idea. Actually, based on the lack of viewfinder and hot shoe they may be going for the lowest price possible.

(although I suspect that since these are pictures of prototypes a hot shoe may end up included)

It seems most of us are resigned to a near $1K MSRP, but still want the camera nonetheless...

Since I'm now an expert at predicting prices (SD14 = $1500-$1700), I give my expert opinion for DP1: $600.
 
I think at that price they will fly off the shelves, I will be ordering myne straight away.

Up to £400 ($750) I would get it straight away, £400 to £500 I'd have to think about it, anything more and I'll be forced to wait for the price to go down. So I REALLY hope you are right.

Also if it is a pre production model it would be nice if they manage to add an hot shoe to the camera, or even a cold shoe since I am going to use it mainly for an external finder.
