Just when I was about to get the D80, along comes the Pentax K10D. Only reasons I would consider this is that it seems to have all the extras that I was hoping the D80 would have! AND obviously I don't have any investment in Nikon glass so it's up in the air now. Pricing is pretty well the same between the two; both are around $1,500 CDN right now.

Nikon D80 Kit w/AF-S 18-135mm G IF ED DX Lens -$1,549

or

Pentax K10D Kit w/DA 16-45mm f/4 ED - $1,449

Hmmmmmmm.....

just try both at the store and buy the one that feels better so you don't have 2nd thoughts.

Nikon and Canon are the ONLY two manufactures I would consider purchasing in this turmultous time with companys going under.

Personally...I say....stay with the Nikon.

Photoshop is like bondo. Use it to smooth out and polish your work, not to compensate for your lack of body work skills.

You'll have many more choices with Nikon.

Yes, and I really didn't like the way it handled - too small for my big hands to be comfortable. Was going to go for the D70 and then finally the D80 came out, which I was going to get this week with a 24-85. The stabilization and dust reduction were two things I had hoped would be on the D80 but that wasn't going to stop me. The price and features of the K10D have made me think twice because of the features and build (love the idea of weather resistance because shooting with an umbrella would be tough - BEST FEATURE). I just wish Nikon had loaded up the D80 with these features at a similar price.

Theo

I went with the D80 - Pentax's lens lineup is weak sauce compared to Nikon or Canon.

And this is one area where I think Ken Rockwell is 100% dead on - choose one and go with and don't look back. You'll shoot tons of great photos with either one and zero great photos without either one. :^)

Actually the Pentax seems like a great deal... if I didn't have Nikon lenses I'd probably get it. I like the sealing...and 9 AF points with cross sensors.
