New Epson Pro Printer

Oh come on now Neil.....HP is not in this for philantrophy, they
are in this to make a profit. Period. And Yes so is Epson.
No kidding. But you're wrong. If the intentions of HP were purely financial they would have given you a lot larger gamut and much less stable.
Yes the B8910 may be a breath of fresh air. But its not the whole
atmosphere.

It doesnt make the 4800 or any of the other stellar printers any
less than they were yesterday and they still make wonderful prints
etc...
IF you'd read my posts you wouldn't have to try to create such statements.
With all the 8910 hype you have been delivering for HP as a
consultant over the last few months on this and other websites it a
wonder that is not the 'perfect' printer.
See the above > READ my posts . What I say I stand by. And hype is not something that interests me, yet innovation does.
I did not see any marketing statements from HP that indicates this
is a ho hum printer.
I don't work in marketing, nor often believe in what they are saying. Yet a business couldn't survive without marketing. For me a printer that can make museum quality B&W fine art prints for
You have been touting this new HP printer as the greatest thing
since sliced bread...and that can be said for many of the wonderful
printers that HP, Canon and Espon has produced in the past...
No I have never used that language. I never will either. I dwell on what is good in each device. Again READ my posts, I have lots of good things to say about each brand.
I am beginning to feel your just a bit biased towards HP, could
this be?????
We've gone through this before. I've been doing what I can with more than just HP to further the collaboration of photography and manufacturers/developers of colour IT products for many years.

I've been invited to do testing often with HP, which is not paid one cent BTW (no beta tester has ever been paid by HP), and that's the way it is. Some have time or make their living writing, or selling something that is parallel to testing and reviews. I don't. Yet the more intimately I know these products the better I can share the info trusted to me by the engineers and scientists, equally the other direction is true , the eng. departments need photographers feedback. A handful of people do this with Epson and Canon too.
I hope "ALL" the printer manufacturers continue to come out with
their breath of fresh air printers so we all benefit......

But to poo-pooh the "new printer' from Espon over the HP 8910 tells
me your taking sides here!!!
PS it's the 9180 and I don't know what you're talking about in the above terms!
Please dont take this the wrong way Neil, I respect your technical
abilities but I will reserve judgement when "I" see the prints off
of these printers before I spend my hard earned dollars on either
or both of these printers.
Alex I couldn't care less if you ever do. I'm not waiting for approval of your opinions, nor mine , and since I'm the one with the test equipment and can satisfy my curiosity on digital equipment. I share what I believe in . By doing so there will always be hecklers and opposition. Sometimes there is good to come out of opposing posts , as we all can learn from knowledgeable posts.
But this one is just hacking. Enough said.

Well here it is. My dealer in Nashville has it posted for preorder. It looks like a great printer at a great price. Of course I have always been a big Epson fan.

http://durys.com/store/home.php My contact there says there will be some new papers coming in cut sheet to.

Epson's official press release says delivery early December.
I agree I think it's a good deal upping the 13" to a reasonable priced 17".

Tomorrow you'll find news on the HP Z2100 and 3100 which are in a new league of printer hardware and software configs. Who knows maybe you'll even want to check them out while waiting for the Epson to be made.

Hopefully you wont have to wait as long as HP 9810 fans had to wait......

and check out the ink costs of the 3800 vs the 8910:

$1.35 / ml with HP B9180 ink cartridges
$0.95 / ml with Epson R2400 ink cartridges
$0.75 / ml with Epson 3800 ink cartridges
$0.65 / ml with Epson 110 ml ink cartridges used in 4800/7800/9800
$0.58 / ml with Canon iPF5000 ink cartridges
$0.51 / ml with Epson 220 ml ink cartridges used in 4800/7800/9800

(from http://www.inkjetart.com ).

Its great to see the prnter manufacturers slogging it out, glad to see we aren't taking sides!! Hahahahahhaa.

I frequently print a 4.25x5.5 custom page on my R2400. I cannot tell if the new Pro 3800 will support custom pages sizes, and if so, will it support pages sizes this small.

From the Epson site:

supports "cut-sheet media handling from 4x6 to 17x22"

Any one have an idea or do we have to see the actual printer driver.

Did you not read the info on the link given by an earlier poster???????
Jules
I have been planning on purchasing a 4800 in October, but I just
found out about the upcoming announcement.

I'm surprised there aren't the credible leaks like there are when
Canon is about to announce a camera.

It does look like there is evidence that the new printer will be a
3800 since you can google it and find some links where the info has
been removed.

Since it's a 3800 does that mean that it isn't intended to be
better than the 4800?

How long does it normally take for Epson printers to become
available after announcement?

Thanks!!

Same here amsnet, never bother change ink...not a problem. Beatiful printer the 4800, we sell prints from it every day and i love it. I very rarely even have to do head cleans either. The 3800 looks better, but the way products have always gone, they just keep getting better. When my 4800s life ends I will upgrade, but not until then.

That is to be seen. One would hope there will be long page sizes allowed like the 9180 HP to make faux roll feed panoramics possible.

It's probable that there will be custom page sizes but I think they will not have the borderless options on all custom sizes.
