Fuji S5 vs. Nikon D200

My question will be, will S5pro support old AiS lens? Also, can it do CLS wireless flash? Letz hope so!

Frame rate and max frames to fill up buffer should be much better when shooting in JPEGs. I never shoot RAW with my S3 because I don't find a need to shoot RAW with it.

From Steve's Digicam about the S3 being a JPEG DSLR -

"The S3 Pro makes full use of Fujifilm’s extensive color film expertise. Rather than force photographers to shoot in RAW mode and spend time on an extensive workflow process, Fujifilm has introduced Film Simulation Modes, dynamic range presets and color space selection. Once the photographer is familiar with these settings, they will be able to produce JPEG images straight from the camera, which require no post-production. Photographers can choose between smooth, extended tonality and natural skin tones, or the dramatic impact of highly saturated color. The Film Simulation Mode is the equivalent of changing film type to suit shooting conditions, and achieves this at the touch of a button."

what do you know that I don't?
Unless you were just kidding, there is no way you can get it. Do you expect D200 body with a better sensor will go cheaper than D200? We will get the real answer in due course in time but it would be quite fair to expect such a camera to cost a whole lot more than D200.

i think it is very possible fuji learned something with the pricing mistakes of the S3; I mean look at what it costs now; it's amazingly cheap. am I missing something or isn't it the same exact sensor from the S3? if so much of the R&D is already done.

I honestly don't know where it will be priced at. but i think it would be very interesting if it was priced at say 1499.99.

We don't quite know whether it has the exact same sensor as that in S3 Pro or not. Just the pixel count is not really enough indication that they are the same sensors particularly when Fuji claims to have made upgrades qualitatively. But one thing we know for sure - that it is in heck of lot better body than what S3 Pro sported.

If I have to guess, I would say the street price when the camera is launched will be about $2,500. But hey, if it is available at $1,499, it is the consumer that wins. I won't complain. But I am just trying to realistic.

Phil's comparison sheet says it will support non-cpu lenses and with metering in A and M modes and additional functionality if lens info is entered in the camera. Sounds similar to how non-cpu lenses are handled with D_X cameras. Brian.

I hope you're right, Adam. I wouldn't mind adding this cam to my bag, if the price were reasonable. Regardless, I sincerely hope that they make a good showing with it. I'd like to see them stick around.

Dunno, but I hope that it has been tweaked to perfection. They've had plenty of time to make improvements, ala the d50 from the d100/d70.

That's about as high as I'd be willing to pay, unless that sensor really puts out something special. It should be a very nice portrait, wedding, low light cam, especially since we can probably assume that the mb-d200 will fit.

1. > 3 FPS

Nope, not happening. It's max at 3FPS, but if you're looking for the high-DR you want, it's only (get this) around 1.5 FPS.

2. Buffer was greater than 10 RAW

Barely. Again, at high DR, it only does 11 RAW. Something like 24 in non-DR mode.

3. Cheaper than D200

That would be a stunner from Fuji which generally overprices its DSLRs and has to backtrack later. I'm willing to bet it's more expensive.

With P&S's coming out with 10mp's at $599.00 why would anyone
settle for less? Another Fuji error. Hucking those left over
sensors in a different body is a formula for disaster, for Fuji
that is. Most current users are reluctant to upgrade unless
something ground breaking is introduced so that'll leave new user
purchases. If history is any indication, Fuji's inflated price
scheme will have them running elsewhere. I suppose they figure
nothing ventured, nothing lost.
If they've (really) tackled the moir'e issue, then I'm in...

--I seriously doubt it, as well. Besides, if the camera specs out, it'll be worth a (slightly) higher pricetag.

One thing that I have not seen mentioned yet, is that no one has pointed out the "elephant in the room". Will Nikon be able to produce these cameras to match demand? After waiting till 2-07, It would suck to then have to wait another six months before delivery.

Ive still got a FujiS2 along with D2X and D200, always loved the Fuji-color.

The let-down with Fuji is ofcourse their terrible softwares, Raw-converters etc ( I dont believe in third party converters ).

I do need MP, in AD and Industrial photography the end product is pretty large blowups sometimes even billboards and why Fuji keep on insisting on this interpolation-rubbish of MP I really dont know maybe Nikon feel they could be a small threat if they were to launch a true 10 or 12MP machine.

Eh? So you think camera companies should write software? Maybe software companies can make cameras? How about it, the new Microsoft BG-1d. It works really well - most of the time, especially if you keep it up-to-date. It'll freeze every so often, and all you'll get will be blue pictures, but that's ok; just clear the excess files out of the buffer, defrag the CF card, install the latest bug fixes and there'll be room to take more pics ... (c;

Seriously, investigate the world of aftermarket RAW conversion - you'll be doing yourselg a big favour.

Seriously!! I dont think youve followed this Forum for many years.

Right now on my computers, for the D2X, D200, Kodak14slrn, FujiS2, Ive got Capture, new NX, Bibble, silkypix, Capture-one-pro and for the H1 with P45 Ive got the Phaseones converters and with the Drumscanner and Imacons their own programs.

What I dont know about converters (not boasting) probably isnt worth knowing. Ive even got the BARCO products.

Now, you cant surely believe that for example Nikons own camera-engineers are sitting down doing softwares??

One guy who I personally know ( British) is but one whos been involved in Nikon and Phaseone softwares his experience goes back ten years with Adobe and four years for NASA, even British-Aerospace.
Were talking serious knowledge here.

all the best Fred
