Canon G2 Out of Stock Everywhere?

I have been taking pictures for years & have owned four previous p&s dc's along with my current Canon D30.

I gave my wife a 5000 for Christmas. It was returned this week. I've never used a more inconsistent, annoying camera in my life.

I filled a one gig Microdrive twice with it. I got some truely amazing shots, but WAY more out of focus, botched exposure shots than any other camera I've ever used.

I will also be ordering a G2 as soon as I find one at the right price. We took some test shots with a G2 & the 5000 at a local camera store & compared them. Shooting in RAW mode at ISO 50, I much prefer the G2 shots. The 5000 at ISO 100 has WAY too much red & blue channel noise when sharpened or blown up.

Here is a comparison between a D30 & the 5000. Both shots where shot at high, fine .jpeg at ISO 100. They where then given a levels adjustment & the exact same Unsharp Mask in Photoshop & saved as .tiffs.

Look at the difference when viewed at 300% in ps.

Why is it a hassle? Just have to know where to order it. My time doesn't cost me anything; I don't do photography for a living, just for fun.

Call Canoga Cameras. A LOT of people on this forum buy their G2s from them. Ask for Greg Noble. Awesome professional customer interaction.

They have some G2s coming in today or tomorrow. Price was $749 and with AMEX rebate of $200 (using A&M ad) I'm paying $549.

I just checked at A&M Photo World and the G2 price is $699. Where did you see $549. Could you send the link of the add.

I just ordered mine from Canoga Cameras after seeing good feedback from all of you on this post. I am now searching for a good pricematch.

I called on the status of my order at cameraworld and they aren't getting them until 1/15 or 16. ugh.

Plus they have 80+ on back order and I'm 71. Double ugh. If I don't get it by next weekend I'll pull my order and wait until after the Feb show.

At least they are throwing in an extra 32 meg card this week. Whoopee. That will last a week and then I'll be getting the 256 from newegg. Wish I would have bought it at $65. This Amex Blue is turning me into one cheap b*stard!

Cameraworld will have them this Friday they tell me. $750 plus a
free 32 meg card. Have bought from them before and they are great.

They are getting 100 and had 60 backordered on Monday.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I ordered mine from 17th Street Photo in NY on Wednesday, and got it Friday (I paid$35 for 2nd day FedEx). Great Service. Price was $759.00.

It's fot the latest firmware 1.0.1. Great camera! First impressions are that it's MUCH better than the Nikon 5000.

it's MUCH better than the Nikon 5000.

I'll second that, I don't miss the 5000 that I sent back at all.

My wife tried the G2 at a local camera store & within five minutes was getting great pics. She used the 5000 for two very frustrating weeks & could never get consistent results.

Hey all. Sorry to be a pest, but I have unfortunately gotten flooded with emails from people who want my help with not only the copy of the supporting ad for the Amex rebate but many have asked for step-by-step directions on how to use this rebate service..

I must ask that you not** send me more emails, please. All you have to do is do a search for the "Amex Best Value Guarantee" onthis forum and all the pertinent details are there, including the phone number for Amex. They will walk you through the process. This is how I got my copy of the supporting ad from popular Photography, etc etc.
