Ricoh GR photos: London Thames festival, 2006

. . . and your thoughts on shooting with the GRD??

I like the quality of Ricoh's images, very film like.

Oh, I've already enthused about it here and elsewhere!

I love the Ricoh GR - it's the closest thing I've ever come to my old Olympus XA which was my favourite 35mm compact camera for years.

It's not perfect - the lack of flash output control is a pain and I wish the viewfinder was built in - but I love having full manual settings with proper, easy-to-access controls.

In my dream world there'd be a little less noise at higher ISOs, a non telescopic, totally quiet rangefinder-type lens, a swivelling LCD screen and a viewfinder with exposure info, but for now it's the best I've come across...

Thanks Urban. I've read and enjoyed your website, so I know you are enthusiastic about Ricoh cameras in general and the GRD in particular, but its always good to hear user views, especially as GRD's are owned and used more.

I'm just waiting until the Focus show next Feb to see if Ricoh either drop the price any (or show special deals) and/or release any upgraded camera or firmware.
A friend has a GRD, and you only have to handle one to want one!

Im not familiar with the Focus show: is it such an important venue that manufacturers would drop prices or introduce products in connexion with this show?

The Focus on Imaging show, to give it it's full name, is held each year at the end of Feb', at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England.

Although it's not Photokina, much smaller, it's still a significant show, and the only large photographic show in the UK.

Several retailers have stalls at the show, some effectively quite large 'shops', and they always have special 'show prices' or deals on certain items.

So anyone planning to go to the show, who has a photographic purchase in mind, would be silly to buy elsewhere before going to the show.

Although whether its worth the flight from Potomac, MD is your choice Mitch :-)

hello Urban,

would you tell me where 'Museum Of' is? Looks like an interesting
place.
It's on the Southbank, right behind the OXO building.

It used to put on constantly changing exhibitions on very varied themes (e.g. 'Museum of the Unknown'), but closed a few years back, so I was delighted to see it open again (if only for this one-off photo show).
