Next big E (mock up) - pics

You can easily normalise for that ZD 50/2 lens and see that this
thing is WAY bigger than an E-1.
I agree that it is bigger...

But some people around here joke as if the camera could double as an anchor for a Carnival Cruise Ship.

Compared to that persons hand (and the 50mm lens) it is not that big...

I would have to say that consumer camera's should have to look some what pleasing but when it comes to Pro camera's, who cares what they look like?

Ergonomics and ease of handling have to be priorities. Pro's are in the business to take pictures that people will look at. No one will be seeing the camera that was used to take the photo's.

Give me a well built camera with very good specs and I don't care it will look.
A large part of the poor sales I put down to it being pig ugly...
The E-330 addressed a lot of those issues, and has Live View that
nothing else has, and so sells pretty well.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.-Benjamin Frankli

It's horrible. Let's hope it's only because it's a mockup...

Yes, that's my hope as well. It's just a mockup, I'll wait to throw up when I see the final pig.

I can't believe that they came up with a BIGGER camera than an E-1 plus power grip.

Compare it to a Nikon D80, or even a D200 and it seems to be bigger, despite their larger sensors.

I am afraid that Olympus has clearly lost their way.

Fortunately for me, my E-300 and E-1 will surely serve my needs for the next couple of years, which, I HOPE gives Oly a chance to get themselves back on track. If not, I'll move back to Nikons.

and the E3:

Just for comparison purposes! See the bit cut off from the batterygrip? It must be hereditory! Every E3 camera must have this shape battery grip!

so when does everyone expect this to actually be in the shops ready to purchase, personally i think not within 12 months

I just can't see the issue with why anyone gives a d@mn how it
looks, it is a camera not a pair of shoes. Not that I have a need
for the new camera as the E1 fits my amatuer needs quite well but
it doesn't matter to me how it looks as long as it fits the
performance needs. Oly has always been different, look at the E1
with the off-set lens, it is very different from the typical SLR
but ergonomically it is practically perfect.

I guess the issue is that there is a lot of time spent talking
about the camera looks because there are no specs to nit-pick to
death. But just the same if it feels good in the hand and makes
the task of taking a great photo easier and more comfortable, who
cares what it looks like.

God bless our troops!

The new E is NOT bigger than the E-1, there are some comparison pictures around based on the 50/2,0 macro lens or the hot shoe.

It is very similar in size, with the new E having a bigger prism hump and the lens mount a bit more in the center.

I do.

Design and feel IS important, especially if you buy something that is expensive and something you want to use for some years...
