Further News from SIGMA - another cam in the Pipe - the DP1

I think I would rather have one of these than a SD14.

I document a lot of interiors/buildings for work and there are just not that many P+S 28mm cameras around.

It would be nice if it had an optical viewfinder, but for buildings I think this should do nicely.

I also do digital scouting for LF 4x5 film. This is a decent match for a 90mm lens on 4x5. The one reason I always hesitated using a P+S for scouting was poor IQ, so I always haul around my SD9, but this fits the bill perfectly for those two uses.

Good move.

Now just give us a pro sealed SLR body with 5fps and 6mpx3 to go with the P+S and I will be happy again.

....or image quality. My Fujifilm F30 P&S first shots of grass are .... green mush.... I'm spoiled by Sigma/Foveon sharpness, hopefully the P&S market will learn the difference. Look at the grass and the cornfield in Lancaster Co "cow barn" shot and my next grass/flower/bush shot. Macro flower is okay, but I was suprised at the mush... http://www.pbase.com/sandyfleischman/image/67510811/original

the difference is very obvious even on screen isn't it. look at that grass! that's why I'm very curious to try the little F30 cam out inside the museum. this is supposed to be a "great" little cam? I've been reading the Fujifilm forum, knew about the chromic aberration/purple fringing. But I figured my x530 LIKES the light, and SD10 of course too.... so I'm seeking the relatively lower-light conditions, thus the F30 to try in contrast to Sigma(s) as comparisons eventually. I tried a Pentax OptioWP last year, but it wasn't great in low light, and I found the lack of viewfinder frustrating I admit and eventually gave the Pentax to daughter on long-term loan... My Tahoe lake horizons lean at angles but the image quality was better than the F30 so far. Both are rated as 6 MP cameras, so no one should tell me the SD10 is "only" 3.4. Hahahahaha.

Looks like a nice camera except as others have pointed out "NO VIEWFINDER".

I will not even look at the specs of the camera. Not having a viewfinder is just plain dumb. By not putting a viewfinder on the camera they are excluding a whole market segment. Putting a viewfinder on would not.

For those with good vision you can look forward to, slow response from the screen compared to an optical viewfinder and missed shots because of it. Enjoy!

For those with poor close vision, enjoy constantly putting glasses on and taking glasses off, fumbling around and missing shots. Enjoy!

Sigma...put an optical viewfinder on the camera and I will at least consider it.
