Next big E (mock up) - pics

First, I disliked the center prism, I hate smearing the LCD with my nose, but I could get used to it. I don't like the change of the front dial, the Nikon-style recessed is a step backwards, IMHO. The front dial was so comfortable to use.

OTOH, it is very minimalist Zen-like, it looks like Olympus is finally pulling them selfs together after the OM system got the axe.
Can I get one with no markings? Or perhaps black-on-black? ;)

It does not look nearly as sexy as it should. I like the pseudo Stealth Bomber appearance...but it looks like it took an evolutionary step BACKWARDS!!!

Like others have mentioned, the shutter speed dial is recessed and in a different position. In addition, there are hardly any buttons on the chassis. Does not look too pro-friendly...

In the automobile design world mockups sometimes are nothing like the final product. Only vaguely reminiscent..... I personally am more interested in what's inside.

Ok, I have seen it all over the place now. Looks big and full of surprises. Is that a flip out display? Live view? 3 ccds? IS? Hoo hoo, whats in there? ;-)

I hope they "erode" the body down more to the ergonomic form of the E-1 for the final version. Looks like its wearing a suit to me.

Im just an amateur, and I probably wont be able to buy it, but I like to follow the speculations here.

I just can't see the issue with why anyone gives a d@mn how it looks, it is a camera not a pair of shoes. Not that I have a need for the new camera as the E1 fits my amatuer needs quite well but it doesn't matter to me how it looks as long as it fits the performance needs. Oly has always been different, look at the E1 with the off-set lens, it is very different from the typical SLR but ergonomically it is practically perfect.

I guess the issue is that there is a lot of time spent talking about the camera looks because there are no specs to nit-pick to death. But just the same if it feels good in the hand and makes the task of taking a great photo easier and more comfortable, who cares what it looks like.

Olympus is officially using those images on its own sites...so this is not a photochop...it seems to be what Olympus actually envisioned...

Let's hope they refine it a little more before they release it.

Make the vertical grip more orthodox...and also add more buttons to it. I hate the shutter speed dial as mentioned in my previous post...

Looks like a bit like this:

The E-300/330 is ugly, but this mockup looks quite cool to me. I wonder, how ergonomics are, though.

Kind regards,
Martin

.. from what I can see, many critics of the 4/3 system still thought the E 1 body design was brilliant.

This just strikes me as a step backwards.

However - it's hard to judge ergonomics from just looking at a picture. Afterall, it wasn't till I picked up an E1 that I had to have one.

No text here.

Oly could have considered an evolutionary design based on the current E1 and in my humble opinion, it could have looked better.

Ignoring the aesthetics of the battery grip, it makes good ergonomic sense. I like cradling the body with my left hand wrapped partly under the curvy bottom-left corner of the E-1 body, and this grip would let me still do that, whereas normal battery grips would get in the way.
neither do i :) dont like battery compartment curvy edge ...

I'd like to see the lens mount offset toward the left more (like E-1) or chop short the left side. The viewfinder does not appear as nice as the current E-1.. the round one just looks nicer.

Battery Grip.. i like it! now if the rest of the camera can the curves to match.

And that Olymp[us will produce the smallest, curviest, best looking body you've ever seen?

Why? Just to throw the others off the scent. They'll keep making bix suitcase-sized behemoths while Oly will slip in with a pro-sized sprite.. or is that sprite-sized pro body?

I mean to say, if ever a mock-up had a oversized prism hump, this is it, eh? That tells me they padded the model out and oversized it.

;-)

Yeah, I reckon the E3 when it appears will bear no relation to this m (c)ock-up! :-)
