Hi, I would like to ask on the difference between APO-I and APO-II teleconverters. While I know that APO-II is made with High Speed G lens in mind, it appears to me that there is no difference in speed of autofocusing - both are slow.

Secondly, using APO-I teleconverter I was in fact not able to receive autofocus confirmation from camera, being a D7D and 800si. instead the motor keeps "oscillating" back and fro. However, it worked on my friend's AF 7000.

Most grateful and many thanks in advance!

The original minolta TCs were faster than the two models that followed. Minolta deliberately slowed the following versions down. So if you have a Minolta prime lens that a Minolta TC will work with, you should consider the original model first simply because you will have a much faster lens. If you are shooting a moving subject like a bird or an airplane or a runner, a slower TC will loose the shot for you, --but just think, --the flash will work better, ha ha! The Mind Of Minolta blew that one. The only Minolta A mount TC models made were (from oldest,) the (original) APO, the APO II, the APO D. There are NO other Minolta models in A mount. While the oldest is faster but it only has 5 pins and can not use the latest electronics including D flash benefits. I can't imagine using flash on any subject you decided to reach further than your lens can reach in the first place so in my opinion "D"istance encoding electronics are not much of a benefit on a Minolta TC. Most importantly, the Minolta TCs only work with specific Minolta lenses so don't think you can buy a Minolta TC for use on just any Minolta lens. They will not work with all of them and generally they only work with primes like the 200, 300, 400, 600 and then the D for the 70-200 SSM, AND NO OTHER LENSES. For example if you are trying to get more reach from your 28-75 or your beercan you can not buy a Minolta TC that will work. There are many options from other manufacturers much cheaper than Minolta in the first place.

Thank you all so much for the helpful responses. However, from what I have read, is there no point of getting a APO-II over APO?
