Hey there.
I've had this camera almost 2 years now and i'm embarassed to even ask this.

How do i control the flash on this camera? To turn it to a fill, or off, or auto or whatever. I know there is the flash button but i'm not sure what mode I have ot have it in to use it.

I used to use this camera a lot but as of the last 12 months or so I'm sort of in a rut and with out using it my brain is fried!

not to be embarassed.. we all have moments..

in the 'basic zone', the flash pops up automatically, and if you have an external flash attached, it fires or not according to the mode..

in the creative zone, the built-in flash is manually popped up, and external flash fires all the time.. on the 300D (without hacked firmware) you cannot control the flash - the camera always uses it as fill flash.

Cheers,
Scotty

In the basic modes, the flash is completely automatic. (As are most other settings)

In the creative modes, you decide when the flash fires. Press the button, and the flahs pops up, and will fire when any shot. Push it down, and it won't fire.

The type of flash depends on the exposure mode. Use Av or Tv for fill-in flash. Use P or M mode when the ambient is insufficient, and you want the flash as the main lightsource.

The flash exposure is measured automatically. However, the 300D doesn't have FEC (flash exposure compensation) by default. So when you have a subject that is much brighter than neutral gray, the flash will underexpose. Use the firmware hack to enable FEC on the camera, or use an external flash with FEC control on the flash.

Ive had a bunch of instances where I've wanted to turn it off and
just can't. Very frustrating!
In the Creative modes, you simply push the flash down and it's off.

In the Basic modes, there's a "No Flash" mode - it's the last one on the dial. Also, the Landscape and Sports/Action modes don't flash at all.
