1Ds Mark 11 with Q-flash T-5d

I'm going up to New England to do a 26.2 mile charity walk next Sunday (9/17), then I plan on visiting family. If I have any doubt about using the module, then I'll use the Quantum flash bracket. If there is no problem with the module clearing the RRS bracket on the 30D without the grip, I'll use the RRS bracket. The T5D should arrive tomorrow, the Quantum flash bracket should arrive Tuesday. I start vacation Wednesday, but don't plan on driving to New England until Saturday. This will give me a chance to try both brackets. My real workout with the T5D will take place Saturday at the pasta dinner that is held for the walkers the day before the walk.

brianric: without the battery grip you shouldn't have a problem with clearance. I use a T5d on my 1DmkII, and it's just a tad too tall with the Q13w attached to work well. It's not the IR assist that is a problem. The light receiving sensor is almost completely in the 'shadow' of the RRS bracket.

Thanks. The second bracket will not go to waste. I eventually plan on getting a second T5D. I do event photography. The 30D has the 17-55/2.8 IS, the 20D a 70-200/2.8 L. I have been using a 580 EX and 550 EX. I'll use the second bracket on the 20D.

Hey, thanks a lot that sure helps me too, so for the 1DsM2 and the Td5 i think RRS brackets are out, so i am now looking at Newtons, however i will wait for Brianric's oppinion and i will also email RRS and Robert Newton for further ifo on this topic

Can't help you on the battery as I have a Digital Camera Battery. Two words on my T-5D, Oh Wow!

I put my grip back on due to balance. I just sent an email to Quantum asking them a question on the Canon QTTL module. IMO, the window on the module is for focus assist. As far as when in auto fill, the sensor is on the flash unit. I also found I need less FEC in auto fill than QTTL, and less FEC with QTTL than Canon 580. Back to playing with my new toy.

You cannot go wrong with RRS if you don't need auto focus assist.

Hi Brianric,

How the performance of the Q-flash with the RRS and the Quantum brackets? Please post some tips for us.

I fried the Digital Camera Battery Li-Po battery, had to get the Turbo 2 x 2. When going from landscape to portrait, it is a slow process on the RRS bracket, due to the mass of the T5D. You have to lock the T5D in place after moving it on the bracket. I have not tried the Quantum bracket. I'm up in New England on vacation, and won't get to use the uantum bracket until I get back to New Jersey next week.

Thanks, have a nice vacation, but please dont forget to post some tips after you have used both brackets.

I think you should have gone for the a Turbo battery instead of the 2x2 as one does not need to power the camera through the quantum battery which can be used exclusively for the TD5.

More power, and I can use it to power my 580 EX when I use two cameras.
