Error in ACR 3.5?

I've upgraded my ACR plugin to the recently released version 3.5. I use Photoshop Elements 4.0 to do my editing.

When I open a Canon 5D RAW file in PSE 4.0 the program shows a preview, as it should. However, when I click to continue processing the file I get a program error message (without any explaination as to what might have caused it) and the file is NOT opened in PSE. I tried several files, made with various 5D firmware versions, but no change to this behaviour.

When I replace the 3.5 plugin file (8fi) with the old 3.4 plugin file, everything returns back to normal and I can open my 5D RAW files (old and new) again.

I've downloaded ACR 3.5 again (the ZIP file wasn't corrupt, but you never know), but to no avail.
Does anyone else have this problem after upgrading ACR to version 3.5?

This is NOT a flame ... but I was just wondering ... why would someone with a 5D use Elements as a editor. Seems one with such a drop dead great camera would want full up Photoshop. Just curious ... :-)

Don't know what Victor's answer will be but I'll tell you my reasons for using Elements when I could afford to upgrade. Has all the capabilities I need from PS (when used along with add-in curves) with a simpler interface. It's what I know now. It had some valuable features that PS only got in subsequent upgrades (shadow/highlight if I recall correctly).

Seeking the extraordinary in ordinary things

I have Elements 3 and found that installing ACR 3.5 causes the display of portrait oriented raw photos to be corrupted (an embedded landscape version is displayed on top of the portrait oriented one). This behavior disappeared when uninstalled 3.5 and reinstalled 3.4.

It gives me all the image editing tools I need (or want).

Photoshop Elements is more powerfull than most think it is. It's like many prefer Microsoft Word for their word processing, while they actually just use some 20% of its functionality and could do with Windows' Wordpad if it had a spell checker or the much cheaper Microsoft Works text processor...

I'm not getting into details as to why I decided to buy a 5D instead of a 20D or even 350D at the time. Heck, I'll just say it: Full Frame and uncompromised photography.

A user there named Z, whom I believe to be an Adobe software engineer, has confirmed that the problem is indeed related to use with Photoshop Elements 4. It works fine with Photoshop CS(2) and will work fine in the newly announced Photoshop Elements 5.0

I think the problem is due to some changes in the plugin to accomodate added features to Photoshop Elements 5.0 RAW import filter. Since these features are not present in Photoshop Elements 4.0, the new ACR 3.5 causes a program error.

I have the same problem with ACR and PS4. Thought I was the only one...
Have tried to reinstall PS4 and downloaded 3.5 again. Nothing helps.
I must have 3.5 because my Pan. LX2 is to new for 3.4. Sigh...

I WANT PS5 NOW!!!!!

Anyone now if there is somewhere to download a "trial" yet?

Take care

Soooo....will Adobe fix it for 4.0 users or will be just be screwed again into having to upgrade every time Adobe comes out with a new release??

I use PS8 (CS) for my editing. I use ACR 3.5 with Elements 3 as a "front-end" to save the cost of a PS upfrade.

Seems to work fine but I'm looking for a more efficient workflow in which converted RAW is automaticaly transferred to a stand-alone PS (without leaving an image in PSE browser fromt-end).
Any ideas?

I just downloaded the latest version and it works.

A good thing. I had taken some test pictures in RAW with my 30D and Elements 4.0 could not open them. After downloading the latest ACR I was able to open them in Elements 4.0
