Do you guys have the same problems or is it just me?
regards,
Larry

Sirs,

I'm a new user of the SD10. I will be buying the SD14. My problem is at this time is purchasing lenses with SA mount at a fair price and availability. What I have found is that the lenses with the SA mount is much higher from the dealers than the other mounts, what's even worse is that they never have the items in stock. It would be nice if one could purchase the SA mount lens through Sigma rather than a dealer since they feel there isn't a call to stock the item. I do want to purchase the SD14 even with the mount problem. My point is that I shouldn't be penalized with pricing because I want the Sigma mount nor should I have problems finding what I want. I do wish Sigma would sell directly to it's SA mount users at a price of a wholesaler to make it fair and hopefully will make the SA mount desirable. At the present time I'm pretty much limited to what I want to shoot.

Thanks,
Larry Carter

Hi Larry, the SA mount EX lenses I've purchased through dealers (B&H, Cameta, Adorama, and Abes I recall) have been the same price in SA mount as the other major-brand mounts. In fact, couple times they were on sale, actually cheaper in the SA mount, thus prompting my purchase. Couldn't resist the good deal.....) I've bought 4 lenses from dealers, 2 from forum frends, lenses with great pedigrees....

I question the business practice of selling wholesale to the public (if Sigma wants to encourage dealers to carry the Sigma line.... ) but at least authorized dealers should sell at the manufacturers suggested retail price. That's been my experience ref above. Another point to raise: Sigma should authorize MORE dealers perhaps, especially dealers who stock, do regional demonstrations, sell online for example. My local dealers -- in the WashingtonDC area -- are effectively non-existant.
Best regards, Sandy

Hi Larry,

I've been pretty lucky, I've order from B&H, Adorama and through ebay without any problems...unlike picking up the lenses locally from dealers which are non existant in the Sigma mount and I live in Japan... I'm probably the only person in Okinawa with an SD10...
Cheers!

I just like dealing with certain dealers and they don't have what I want in stock, much cheaper than B&H, about 100-200 less. I guess I have no choice. I even looked at B&H for the 70-200ex macro... guess what... none in stock.

Larry

Not likely to happen. What you are asking Sigma USA to do is to be a retailer, which in term means they will cut into the business of their dealers. Or in other words, shorten the supply chain and become a massive retailer instead of being a mfg'er.

Most Mfg'ers will not deal on the retail level unless they have a huge retail operation that can handle the volume. In addition, it is very unlikely for the mfg'er to sell at the retail level at wholesale prices because that will take out all of the reason for anyone wanting to be their dealer.

I don't think the 70-200 macro for SA is available in the US yet.

Maybe it won't happen but at least if people write as I did maybe they'll give some insentive for dealers to buy SA mount.

In my area of the country the camera dealers actively discourage people from buying Sigma. I've been to several dealers within 100 miles of where I live and not one of them would sell a Sigma body unless you just told them in no uncertain terms that you want a Sigma, not a Nikon or Canon. Then several of them will charge more than suggested retail. On top of that they will tell you, Oh, we just don't sell very many Sigma's. They just aren't popular at all around here. Well, duh! You have to pressure the dealer into selling you one.

As long as the dealers have that attitude I fail to see how Sigma is going to sell very many cameras. The bias against Sigma is very strong around here. I don't understand why, but it's definitely there.

Yes... this is why I want Sigma to sell directly to users of Sigma mounts.

Perhaps if Sigma did a better marketing/education job on the dealers and offered them some incentives to push Sigma dslrs the dealers would see fit to do so. Dealers are probably as ignorant as the average user as to the merits of the foveon sensor. I know that my local dealer didn't even know Sigma sold a dslr until I told them so a few months ago.
Retailers will stock what sells, Nikon +Canon mounts...why stock
something that will not sell?

...the egg had to come first. The chicken existed and couldn't change; whereas, the egg is the instrument of evolution... ;-)

I have to face it and deal with it. I can't even get extension
tubes. I guess it's like owning a exotic car and hard to find parts.
I voiced my opinion on here several months ago about the relative lack of options/accessories for the Sigma and found that quite a few folks here disagree with that assessment. I guess it depends upon where you live and the dealers in your area unless you want to do all your shopping over the net.
