Sony H5 vrs Canon S3 IS

Now just buy it, and go make great images!

Chris
amen to that! i was killing myself, trying to find the perfect camera to buy, wondering if the next generation would leave me with buyer's remorse, etc. personally, i think we're at the point that upgrades to cameras are minor at best. pick a camera and enjoy it. it'll be a few years before it'll really be worth buying a new camera (if at all!)

i have never in my life looked at a resolution chart or the results
from photographing one :)

i was just comparing the sample still life setup photos on the h5
review from this site. based on those photos, the edges of the
images show that the lens on the s3 is better.
yeah sure .. :-) most of the time people cannot be convinced with raw maths .. :-) I'm used to it .. mostly people see what they want to see :-)

@PrimeUser

That deal seems to be good. Is that the special price or is it available at almost all stores.

@All
Can somebody tell me what about International warranty.

A few stores have it.
Buydig, beach camera, newegg, circuitcity had it in store for a while.

I hope the S3 meets my P&S needs........although G7 looks interesting for $200 more then the S3 and seems to have caused quite a stir on this forum :-)

As long as the S3 picture quality does as well as my first Nikon880 P&S I will be satisfied.

Yeah. Agree to both previous posts. This could go on forever! I just thought something would pop out at me that made the choice a no-brainer. Didn't happen, at least, nothing overwhelming.

Frankly, with the old 717 I never really mastered that machine. It was more camera than I was a photographer. So, this time, I'm going to get to know the camera thoroughly so I can take advantage of those bells and whistles. Anyway, I'm ready to take pics again. The weather is beginning to be liveable again in the Deep South, and there are lots of photo ops.

Just for the record, beware of an outfit called "AVRepair" in Florida that advertises the repair of digital cameras. I sent them my 717 which had a bad CCD, not knowing that Sony had a recall out. As a repair place, they had to know that. They didn't mention the recall. They quoted me a big price for the repair, more than the camera was probably worth. I asked about salvage on it and they quoted me $30 salvage price (including their "inspection fee"). I went for the deal, thinking I would just buy a new camera. Then, I found out about the Sony recall on this board. They won't back out of the deal. Pretty sweet for them! They can send the camera to Sony, have it repaired, and sell it on the used market.

Beware of this outfit. Not very ethical, in my opinion.
