Very good shot! I'd change nothing........it all works forme.
Thanks for your kind words. I may, like many fathers, be obsessed with my own children and I'm a bit hesitant to post photos which might be considered just snapshots of someone's children. So, it's great to hear there really was something good in this photo (not just the subject, which is very subjective ;)
even contrast on a baby shot is ideal IMO Love the landscape
orientation which really makes the composition.
Once I got a dslr(e-1) I have been shooting much more in the vertical orientation than I used to but this really seemed to work better this way.
Keep dipping into B&W
I will. It requires skill though, which I haven't developed yet, to see which shots work better in B&W than in color.
Many ways to convert and no right answer. How did you do this one?
I wish this was a result of secret channel-brewing recipe but I only told GIMP to do a monochrome for me. I just adjusted contrast&brightness to my liking.

Second works but might need more contrast.......seems all mid tones. I( do like the comp and always appreciate motion blur when it works. :-)

Like that first but given that she is looking out of the frame I might crop a bunch off the right?

Good energy and interest in both for me.

I don't claim any expertise on anything, I just know what I like :-)

I use all types of conversions and suit them to each image. Digital is cool in that you can shoot in color, and if it works for B&W great. I do look at shots as B&W alot while shooting but with B&W film it either worked or it didn't.

Thanks again and keep posting here each week if nothing else.

Hey Michael, what's a nice guy like you doing in a place like this?

Great to see more of your great 'jazz' shots, you are a master of this sort of photography (as well as most others too).

Hope all is going well these days and the summer was a good one for you.

Best wishes-
Andy

ps.. I would urge folks to check out Michael's link. Loads of great photos there. Different approaches, treatments, subjects.. Excellent stuff.

Michael, that first picture of Dewey is a real beauty. Great expression and contrast. Thanks for posting.

Always enjoy your contribution. As Andy mentioned you are more than just a Jazz man and have quite a nice body of work.

Not that you can address the past, but damn if that first shot had the entire sax in the frame it would really rock.

Always a treat to view your fine images.

Thanks
