1. Battery duration.
D80 consumes less battery power
2. Noise at high ISO's
D80 in-camera noise reduction is better - less chroma noise - good for those who shoot JPGs, and don't want to postprocess much
3. Accuracy focus
Not sure. Both use the same 11-point AF algorithms.
4. Image quality
What is image quality? If you're comparing JPGs on-screen shot with default settings on both cameras, you'll get the impression that the D80's images have better colour, stronger saturation and contrast, more pop to them, "sharper" (probably due to stronger default in-camera sharpening)
Thank you in advance!

D200's ergonomics is much better than D80.

I like the D80. When Nikon comes out with the D200s, I be buying that too, then the D3H, then the FF Nikon... (omg, it never ends.)

Thank you for the answers.

I agree with you. In my opinion, the ergonomics is much better in D200 and I like the lockup mirror feature but I think it is not enough for justify the price diference (for me). I like magnesium body in D200 but I would not take advantage of it.

If the D80 has not any known problem, I will probably buy the D80.

Cheers!

PD: I want read more opinions if possible. Thanks.

is the D80 worth the upgrade up from a D70 (i'll have to sell the D8=70 to make the jump). i have concerns about the flash sync. thanks, emily

I would recommend downloading the manual for both cameras. The D200 has a very very deep feature set. The two cameras seem quite similar at first glance, but the D200 has a lot of minor extras that might be important to you.

to start with the d80 is plastic body D200 magnesuim body, size wise hold the D200 and the D80 seems like a toy, I think you should do a search and read and compare the 2 might help to download the manuals, the D80 is a fine camera but the D200 is in a different field, have used one for a weekend a few months back nice piece of kit, go and try the 2 and I bet that will make your mind up.

I have just taken the plung myself: sold the D70 for 550euro with 18-70, and for 800euro I get the D80. At that price the upgrade is more than ok. (Before you ask 800 is the price without VAT that I can get). I have the 18-200 VR also, so I'm not missing much without the lens I'm selling.

What decided me, beside de 2.5" screen against the D70's 1.8" (which ruined one rare afternoon of shooting in Venice), was the commander mode. I have a SB-600 and can't make much out of it in wireless (need courses and practice). On the D70, the buit-in flash will trigger the other but not be used. On the D80, I read somewhere it will! This will save me from having to buy a second SB-600.

My preferred site (Ken Rockwell) has a nice feature comparison, so you can see what's interesting for you:

I purchased the D80 about a week ago and did not like it. I was coming from a D50 and didn't feel it was a worthy upgrade. It seemed as if the camera had focusing issues. I returned the D80 for the D200 and I love it. Not only can you feel the difference in the camera, but to have all of your fuctions at your fingure tips is awesome! I say hands down, go with the D200.

Thank you for your answers again.

It is difficult to choose between this two cameras because people have different opinions about it.
There are opinions like this,
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1020&message=19921436

that seem very conclusive but, on the other hand, there are people saying that they are having some problems with the autofocus system.

I have the D200 manual and D80 manual and I know what are the differences over the paper.

Any comment else?

Cheers!

Based on your requirements, from what I've seen the D80 would be the way to go. I think the D80 likely matches or beats the D200 in each of the four categories you mention. I've been very impressed with the images so far from the D80. Ergonomics and build quality go to the D200, but I would rather have the image quality of the D80.

How can you even compare the D80 to the D200? They are not even in the same ball park..lol .. They are 2 different beasts and not even close.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - ' Wow! What a ride!'

I would opt for the D80. it's a great cam and offers a challenge to nikons own D200. The Noise control is truely world class on the D80 and I find that 95% of the controls that I would need to access can be thought out and programmed to be accessed with out menu diving, which is a big deal to me. While I belive that 99& of the controls can be accessed with out menu diving.

Hi,

Here are some quick comments -
Hi, could anybody help me?

What do you think about D80 and D200 regarding to:

1. Battery duration.
D80 has better battery life..
2. Noise at high ISO's
No difference
3. Accuracy focus
Slight edge to the D200
4. Image quality
No difference

It really comes to considering the xtra weight, sealing, flash sync, and the more fliexibility in settings of the D200 -

tough choice - may come down to which one feels best in your hands?

Enjoy..

Joan
Thank you in advance!
