After reading this I was hoping that the captures from the Leica might look a little different:US MSRP is $799.99Any idea of the US pricing of the V-Lux1
It's basically l$150 more expensive than the Panasonic FZ50 ($200
more if you look at current FZ50 prices) which is the SAME camera
with a Panasonic brand label and without PS Elements 4.0 and a
512MB SD card included. The FZ50 and V-Lux1 are even manufactured
in the SAME factory by the SAME factory workers.
If you just want/need a good all-in-one camera get the FZ50. You
can get a fast 2GB SD card from Newegg.com or Amazon for around
$40. And there's no way Elements 4.0 and the word "Leica" is worth
$110.
Don't get me wrong. Despite the high price of the new M8 I'd say
the M8 is worth every penny. However, the V-Lux1 is just a
"rebadged" FZ50 with an overpriced 512MB card and PS Elements.
I just bought the FZ50 as a family and vacation camera and it's
wonderful ... for what it is. As much as I love the FZ50, I
wouldn't pay $800 for this camera. ($600 ... yes. $800 ... no.)
According to their specifications, it has. Just look at Leica's Website:the lieca does not have iso 80
Phil says they will try to get a Leica vs "Lumix" shoot out posted for these cameras before Christmas:I hope Phil or Simon can give us a 2 page comparison review as we
tend to trust their judgement and in some cases can make or break a
purchase.
Yes I see what you are saying but there are differences I went to Leica's site and they have some different specs posted on their own site then what is posted here at dpreview unless leica is just saying that which really don't make no sense at all. Because you are going to see the specs befroe you buy either one.go to buyers guide in menu {top left page} do side by side
comparison of these 2 cameras .
I feel the same way I am hoping Leica tweaked the sensor enough where it needed to be tweaked and that can knock out quite a bit of nosie. I know I was reading and they say if done properly most of the noise can be eliminated just through the processing of the senosr with the engine. I hope that they did tweak it enough to get good results. I know that if to much pushing of the sensor and engine just like a computer you can start with overheating just like overclocking a processor in the computer. The UK price is £590 for the v-lux and £390 for the FZ50 .
according to Simons spec list on the FZ50 it says ISO80. I was
hoping Leica would have added their profiles to reduce the amount
of noise above ISO400. If not why pay an extra £200 . I can pick
red spots up for 2p each.
Lots of companies use OEm's for hardware but 99% of the time add
there touches. Lets hope Leica do not think we are that foolish.
