I want the Oly E-460 SE

Money wise the $ is history and euro is much stronger
You sound like a Canonite spouting off how Olympus' technology is inferior and that they shoulg just hang up the towel and get out of the business...except you are referring to the US currency, not to cameras...

Put a 5-6 MP sensor (from the E-1?) in the E-400 body, give us
kick-ass ISO 800 in return, make it a little less capable in the
specs and sell it for 499,- EUR with the 14-42 lens.
Do you hear me Oly, I would buy this camera immediately! :-)
Am I the only one who'd be perfectly happy with "just" 5-6 MP? And
I don't mean the people earning their money with the camera.
old sensors usually are more expensive than newer ones of the same size, even if they have lesser specs...

It's not that simple!
I don't want an E-400 for 500 euro (although I do want it ;-)) I
want a "cheaper" version of it. Oly can decide here between selling
a reduced features camera with less margin or not selling at all,
because I personally won't pay 850 for a kit.
Ther si not much that you can reduce to save production cost.

Viewfinder is small, body is plastic (do ypu wnat a plastic lens mount?), buffer is small, AF system and metering system is the "old" one, so what exactly do you want to be saved.
An older sensor?

Hey, why don't you buy an E-500 or E-300 then?

That will give you exactly what you want. They are dirt cheap now (Olympus probably will not make any money on them anymore), but do not expect Olympus to sell a new product at a loss.

You can do so when clearing stock (see Pentax *istDL, Oly E-1), but not when introducing a product.

They want to make money with it and if you aren't willing to pay for Olympus R&D department than just wait until the model is outdated and pick it up then...

I'm sure that you will be able to buy E-400 + lens for 500$, but not now. Maybe in 1-2 years.

If they flog it cheap they gain your low margin business, but lose my HIGH margin business (I'd have bought it at the high price, but now I buy it the same low price as you).

Hence the Holy Grail of segmentation, where they find some way to separate you and me and charge us different prices.

That's actually quite difficult with cameras...

actually e-500 is out of date for its poor iso quality
and it is too big to show the compatitive advantage of 4/3 system

oly should have something at low price segment, at least

then 4/3 system will gradually grow up, if not a lot customers in 4/3
system, even sigma will stop design new lens to support it in future

system comes with low lens weight rather than low camera weight (although the E400 is a logical marketing step).

RELATIVELY poor high ISO noise performance is a given from a 30% smaller sensor. People who shoot in caves should buy elsewhere. Most pople DO have to carry the camera (so they need small) and only RARELY shoot in caves (so an extra stop of high ISO noise is neither here nor there).

I've used an E500 for nearly a year. I've got good results (by my standards) and I've taken the camera and lenses places I'd never have taken something bulkier.

Great cameras, I think most people would be very happy with one.

it is a good time since kodak want to withdraw from industry

olympus can take the opportunity to take over the kodak's ccd design and manufacture

some told me that @ raw level, kodak ccd produce cleaner picture than
fuji ccd, that will be very good for 4/3 system

How far up must I read such that your comment is seen with a different light? I do not believe I took your statement out of context.

How will my knowledge of past comments possibly sugar coat what you typed?

Please provide a link to the post that will clarify all this for me.
