Well here it is...Challenge 8...Things in Motion

David,

What are your thoughts on it? Its nice in that it pushes us to keep improving, but I'd hate to spend time making comments and then have someone yank the shot. I also don't want everyone to wait until the last day.

Either way is fine with me, I'm just wondering.

Thanks, Jim
debadguy,

I have a question regarding this challenge. Can we post an entry
early on, then replace it later with one I like better? For
instance, I'm hoping to get some tonight, and wondering if I should
wait to post them (again, assuming they turn out at all)? With
only three submissions (which I think is a good idea) we need to
scrutinize our shots, but I don't really want to wait until the end
to submit some.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? I'm fine either way, just a
strategic question.
I'm not "debadguy" but I think this has been done in previous
challenge. Some people removed entries to replace them with better
pictures. Not even better versions of the same one.

I'm not sure what I think. I think that in a "normal" challenge, this shouldn't happen. I would want to make sure I get the photo right and then pos when I'm satisfied. But here I wouldn't want to be tooo strict. After all, deciding that the photo is not good enough and taking it out to replace it with a better one or trying to make it better is part of the learning we are doing.

Your second point is good. You don't want people to start getting more involved with your picture, tehn take it out and replace it. It's getting also pretty difficult to vote and look at everything with all the pics.

All in all, I think it should be allowed, but its use should be very careful and scarce (is this the word???). It shouldn't be used just to send your best stuff of the moment in there until you get something better.

Jim,

I think that switching a entry for another one should be allowed but I think it can have negative ramifications to the switcher depending on how its done. For instance, if you loaded an entry today and wanted to switch it on 3 or 4th day...you would loose all your comments/ feedbacks in pbase for the original entry. You could also confuse or alienate some observers/voters if they liked or disliked your original entry. If you switch your entries the same day, then it may make no difference at all except that you would loose your position in the entry list. That may not be a big deal...but you and I know that entries at the end of the list get less viewing and less comment...

...in the end this challenge to get you to do your best...and get the best photo you can...if switching allows you to do it so be it...

...remember have fun...

Fremiet,

I think 3 entries total would be the wise thing otherwise we would start having 6 entries for everyone and the problem of server space, prolong viewing time would again return...

...get you best 3 in....

...good luck...

debadguy--debadguy

Those are all the feelings that I had. In general, if I'm not happy with it, I'll wait and keep trying. If I'm happy, I'll submit and let it ride (I think).

Thanks. Jim.

I read every entry in this topic, all of the other Challenge 8 topic messages, and went back 10 pages. WHAT IS THE URL TO SUBMIT AND VIEW challenge 8?????

I found the Challenge_7 photos, but I couldn't work the url to give me a challenge_8. I have a shot or two I'd like to submit to exhibition.

I realize that I don't get to this forum every day, but would it be too much to occasionally list the urls? Maybe post a FAQ and then just reference the message? Sorry, but after 30 minutes of looking I'm just a bit fustrated.

Thank you.

Hi Paul,

It can be confusing at first. Fortunately, the root for all Challenges is:

http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/root

Go to this URL and then just select the Challenge you are interested in by mouse clicking on that Challenge's icon.

Also if you get to any Challenge gallery, just mouse click on the

All Galleries

link at the top of that Challenge's page, and it will get you back to the root gallery where you can select the gallery you want.

The very best.

Hi, R.J.,

Thanks for the URL. Now, ahem, how does one submit a picture? Some secret handshake, community log in, magic words?

Thanks.

Paul.

Paul,

Hi again, to post pictures to the Challenge gallery go to the main pbase page:

http://www.pbase.com/

At the top right of the main page you will see a link to "login". Mouse click on this link to get to the login page.

For login enter stfchallenge
For password enter stfpost

Then mouse click login below and to the right of where you just entered your password. This will bring you to the Sony Talk Forum STF Challenge.

Approximately 6 lines down you will see:

They are grouped into 10 galleries

mouse click on the "galleries" link in this sentence.

This will bring you to the galleries, but now you will see the work "edit" at the top of each page, e.g. here it will say

edit root gallery

This let you know that you have successfully logged in and have edit capability which includes posting photos.

Now first mouse click on the

Challenge 8:
Things in
Motion

icon then on the

Gallery 1:
Eligible

icon.

We're almost to the end.

Then mouse click on

edit this gallery

which will take you to the page where you can now upload your pictures.

Find on this page the section marked

Upload images to this gallery.

Under this title you will see browse, this will allow you to browse for the file on your own hard disk that you want to upload. When you select this file and see its name in the box, you can mouse click upload image and the image will be uploaded to the gallery.

After it is uploaded you should see its name towards the bottom of the page. It is now uploaded. You can stop here.

However, if you want to change its name you can check the box to the left of the words edit and represent and then just replace the uploaded name with the name you want to display the picture with.

Then mouse click update gallery images and the photo you just uploaded will now have a new name.

I look forward to your contributions to the gallery.

The very best.

R.J.

R.J,

Thanks for the help. Maybe we should book mark your message and include it in the Challenge announcements. It's nicely detailed and lets a newbie learn how to enter.

Again, thanks.
