Out of a 9 hour session about 900 our of
1700 ACR RAW images look like this:

Oh joy...

Session next day was just fine...

Funny thing is that the images previews ok and shows ok with
Microsoft RAW image viewer.

I suspect oxide on the contact plates of the batteries.
Anyone else who would like to take a guess?
Does it look familliar?

The hard drive is ok, the memory cards have been flawless.
These images are from 2 different memory cards.

What do you make of this?

I would have bet it is the memory card. I had a similar problem once with a cheap microdrive clone. The photos looked similar to yours. In my case the thumbnails were ok, too.

Well, with the thumbnails intact I guess you can rule out a problem with the sensor.

I don't see how the batterie could cause problems like this.

Do you still got warranty?

Looks like a corrupted memory card. Have you tried reformatting in the camera?

I think you somehow got some moisture (sweat, humidity?) in the card slot. Time and taking the cards in and out probably cleared it up. I have seen similar conditions when someone accidentally wash a CF card. The tiny bit of moisture transferred to the camera's internal pins. (or it could have been reader's pins)
