Studio Portraits with D7 - Comments welcome

Wern't they really hot? The lights I mean ;) Bryan
I made these photos using my D7 and 2 1000w tungsten lights with a
white background.
The average aped was 1/30 and 4 for aperture.
I set the levels in Photoshop and resize the images.

It's summer here in Brazil and the lights are really very hot. Yesterday I made other photos using 3 1000W lights to get a better shutter speed/aperture, but i'm really looking to a flash solution to use my strobes.

Nice shots, Cormack. I liked the accuracy of the skin colors. Did you use manual WB with the tungsten lamps??
Mike
Very nicely done. I've wondered how the D7 would do in studio
work. Unfortunately I myself am a simple amateur and only do
landscapes, but I love seeing others work like yours. Keep up the
excellent studio work!!!

I'll say here what I said at one of your photo's. You need catch lights in the eyes to add life to the photo as well as sparkle. You can also try this: move your lights close together with white shower curtains in front of them. As close as you can get without causing flare in the camera. You will get a "cats eye" look to her. You don't need to spend much money: Shower curtains (2), Aluminum coat racks on wheels (2) and that's it. At Wal-Mart the costs are 4.95 and 12.95 respectively. $36.00 total. I use this setup with white lighting strobes, a background flash and hair light. With Dimage 7 it takes some fooling around to get all the strobes to flash. Sorry to be preachy but I've been doing this for 20 years. Dave

Hi Dave, thank you for the tips.

You're right about the catch lights. These photos I made with static lights, so I could note move the lights because I was alone.

I made another session with a different model (portraits and artistic nudes) with my assistant moving the lights. I had much better results.

As soon I get the authorization from the model, I'll put a link for the new photos.

Hi Mike,

I use the auto WB. I tried the manual WB, but decided to use the auto settings due to a little better skin reproduction with this lamp set up.
