Hello All...

After 3 weeks on the Blue Ridge Parkway and a zillion shots, many using the self-timer, my wife stunned me by sayiing "you oughta get a wireless gizmo" so we would't have to run back from the tripod and say "cheese" for the camera. She said that might be the perfect Christmas gift!! Whoa...now I better get going before she changes her mind.

Several of you have spoken about 3rd party manufacturers vs Nikon gear. What's your experience? Are there any that work really well and don't cost your firstborn child? Would love to see what you've done. Thanks.

Peter

I have kept my beautiful ML-L3 wireless remote control transmitter when I sold my D70s and not that I received my D200 I am seing that the ML-L3 does not work on it. Worse yet, I am afraid the D200 has not any similar transmitter available for it! The home-made option I saw might work but will all due respect and in my case I would prefer a tiny/small/simple unit like the ML-L3.
Isn't there anything like the ML-L3 for the D200 in the market?

I use a Nikon MC-22 with a custom cable that I built for $5 in radio shack parts connected to my PW Receiver. The MC-22 has banana plugs so it is the most flexible option. I can do the same thing with a wired 1 or 2 stage pushbutton switch connected to my custom cable.

I suppose any wireless device that can close a circuit would work just fine (garage door opener).
Here is a thread response with the Nikon 10 pin wiring and pinouts explained:

Thanks for the info below, Steve. Fully agree with your comment. Not willing to create a big issue here, why has Nikon waxed such a nice built-in device? I simply LOVED it in the D70s, and I used it a lot - it was just perfect. Now, here we go ... spending an additional 165 bucks to something the D70s has for free ... it sounds stupid but I see no solution.
Thanks again,
Cox

It's pricey though. $165 at B&H. And it uses your hotshoe.
Not nearly as cool as the built-in solution on the D50/D70/D80

Thank you so much for the pin-out details.
I keep asking this same question and have yet to receive an answer.

I would like to use this cable for my PW. However, connecting pins 1 and 9 together equates to a shutter 1/2 press. Hence, no review possible on the LCD. Do you know how to get around this problem?

For my macro photog, where I manually focus, I could just connect pin 1 to ground to fire the shutter. However, I assume the meter would not come on.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thx,
PhilR

I second

whit the price of the electronic these day it will not be cheap to have this has a standard in the box.

I just remember when i purchase a CANON pro 90IS few year ago. We had this small infrared device. it had many feature on it.

That was the old days digital photography where manufacture where trying to get us addict :):):):)

I read this elsewhere today, I too am/was interested in upgrading to D200 from my d70s, but this does not help me at all. I have the cheap wreless romote for my D70s..stupidy they did not add this to D200 also...

BTW the D80 works with same wireless remote, I may save the money and go that route

You know if you want all the cheapo gadgets get a D70 or D80.

The D200 is a pro camera, like the F100 of film fame.

Yes, I loved the remote on my D70 and yes I would love one for the D200. But the D200 has the multi purpose remote jack designed for numerous wired and wireless remotes.

When you buy a pro camera be prepaired to pony up to the bar and shell out some oats for the pro accessories.

I own the wireless remote. I paid $100 for it on a buy it now on ebay. It came with a manual and little case. It has many features and works great.

No rudeness intended. Just remember, in the scheme of things the D200 is Nikons #2 camera right under the D2Xs. It is a little pricey but for the money you get D200 build quality.

Adams, Gutmann, Steichen, Snoopy, Stigletz, Weston. they lead by example.

The 10-pin contact opens loads of possibilities for home made gadgets. Big fun, I love it.
