Hi all. I would like to help my dad pick a good PMP/PSD. He currently has a Canon 350D, and will most likely stick with that until a full-frame camera from Canon becomes viable for him. The requirements are:
  • large LCD screen, around 3" or more
  • storage for JPEGs (no limit on resolution)
  • compatible with RAW files
  • TV out would be a nice feature but not mandatory
  • minimum 40GB (either built in or to be used with notebook HDD)
  • integrated CF reader
  • USB connection (for connecting to PC)
  • price around US$400 or less
At the moment the candidates considered are:
  • Epson P-2000
  • Vosonic VP8360
There are also the Jobo Giga Vu and Epson P-4000 but they are far too expensive, and the Creative Zen Vision does not support RAW & has a limit of 8MP JPEGs I believe. Not sure about the upcoming Zen Vision W though. Any advice would be appreciated...or if you have any questions please let me know.

Cheers!

I've been researching this for myself and am ready to order an 8360 (120GB)

I am waiting for the Creative Zen Vision:M 60GB to be released, if it's not this week, I will go with the 8360.

Hi there. The M looks ok, but the reason I did not include that is because a) the screen is a little on the small side, and b) I do not think it is compatible with RAW files. The Zen Vision takes care of the screen size but is still not RAW compatible (and limited to 8MP photos from what I read).

The VP8360 is indeed a strong contender at the moment.

Cheers!

Epson announced the P-3000/5000 to replace the P-2000/4000, however I'm not sure when they will show up in stores. As they do appear, prices for the P-2000/4000 will drop. That said, if your father does upgrade, it's possible that Epson won't upgrade the firmware, so the P-3000/5000 might be a wiser choice.

I bought the 8360 in Singapore 6 weeks ago and would recommend it, got it to store photo's but now use it for more, music, store and watch DVD's, voice and video recorder, with 100gb cost Sin$600, then bought a spare battery and charger, battery the same as a finepix np-100.
