Maybe we should start an every updating list of the

"Great Blunders in DSLRs"

We now have a candidate for number 1: Olympus not selling E400 in N. America.

There has to be more too this, like an E401, can Oly really be that stup!d?

No, they aren't big at all. They put impressive displays up in stores, but you see very few in the field. But still, you don't just ditch about 1/4 the global market just cause sales are a bit slow.

I agree. All of my digital cameras have been produced by Canon (300D, SD300, S45). While there are good arguments to buy specific cameras from other manufacturers, none have been as consistant as Canon.

However, before digital cameras, everyone in my family owned Olympus 35mm cameras, from the all-weather Stylus lineup to the OM models (I had a OM PC, my father had an OM-1, etc.). I loved having ESP and spot metering, a feature which Canon has ignored. One of the main sticking points for me, over and above feature/price comparison, has been the lack of CF/SD slots in the Olympus models (At the time of previous purchases they only had models with xD picture card slots).

The E-400 looks like it would be similar to the OM PC (i.e. entry level SLR) and probably would be one of the first cameras by Olympus to cause me to sell my 300D kit. I would definitely take a hard look at it over the Rebel Xti 400D.

How do you persuade 200 million Americans that the camera they aren't buying is the one they really want to have? Tell them they can't have it. Soon enough, they will be beating the doors down.

Plus you get triple headline space:

1: Olympus camera released
2: Olympus camera not available here!
3: Due to overwhelming demand, Olympus releases camera in A,merica after all.

Brilliant!

I'd say the Pentax *ist name was a blunder. Had a lot pf people going "huh? how do you say that?", and played havoc with search engines.

I have a *ist DS, which I'm quite happy with, but we do tend to refer to it as just "DS" on the Pentax SLR forum...

That warning is to tell you that you are using ISO800...not that ISO800 is bad. The warning is there to PREVENT you from taking a bunch of shots af F2.8, 1/4000s, ISO800.

In the E1...the ISO indicator blinks whn you use ISO 1600 and 3200.

The warning in the E400 is likley similar to having ISO displayed in the viewfinder...just a way of helping the user.
