all Nightshots included ! I had a 580EX with me, but did not use it.

Used a 5D @ ISO3200 and Sigma 24mm 1.8 Canon 85mm 1.8 for the party/nightshots. Mostly F 1.8 and 1/25 sec on a tripod offcourse. Worked out fine. I took many redundant shots just to get a good photo without motion blur but in many cases that was not nessesary.

Anyone who does this also ?

Hey sounds great.
Were you the official photographer or a chimp?

I take a lot of candids without flash using 1600 and my 85 1.4

But I still use wireless flash here and there for dance shots, since there would be a lot of blur with the movement

post some shots.

No I was the official paid photographer !

I also have a wireless flash, took a few test shots with it but the flash wouldnt fire because there were to many people standing in front of it. Also because there were not enough places to put the flash at safely.

I took many dance shots with the 24mm. Some of them show a nice motion blur. The kind that shows movement and dynamics in the picture. One or two of these in the album is nice I think.

I am a HUGE fan of flashless event photography. I've been the primary on two weddings recently, shot entirely in available light—also using a 5D—with either a 135L or 85 1.8 (soon to be replaced with 1.2 L).

That said, I get hired as the "anti-wedding" photographer—which gives me a little creative license and the freedom convert most of the really low-light work to B&W, which responds more favorably in RAW to exposure tweaks.

Clients were both thrilled with the results. I've been reluctant to push past ISO1600, though, as I'm not sure Noise Ninja will be enough to adequately handle noise for large prints. Anyone who can confirm good quality 8x10's out of ISO3200 will be my hero...

I'd like to see some examples too.

Thanks!

Yes, I too am an advocate of minimal flash coverage. I discourage my assistants from using any flash at all as second shooters. I use flash sparingly and usually off camera for some formals and some reception coverage. Using flash usually destroys the atmosphere.

I assume the point of this post is the discovery of this poster that you can shoot an entire event without flash and have it turn out OK. Many of us are wondering how well he was able to do this.

Whether you use flash or not is really just a minor point. The major point is to use different kinds of light sources effectively to convey the emotion, beauty, and feel for the event.
