I've been looking on the web to buy a Monopod for my Cannon G1, hundreds of them - hav'nt a clue which to buy. I'd like one I can put in my pocket! Any suggestions?

Adorama sells a super compact model that is supposed to be the better clone of a Linhof model. It's the smallest I have seen.

I have one on order, due to ship next week.

I'll let you know.

I just bought a Promaster T10 for a trip. It is a monopod that is 10" long compressed and 55" all the way out. The neat thing about it is two small arms that swivel out to make it a "table top" tripod. I figured that would be really handy for a lot of situations.
I bought mine locally (Iowa) so can't help you find one elsewhere.

Happy traveling,
Greg

Put in your pocket?

I have the manfrotto carbon 449 (3449 in the US) - light and great!
Paid about 120 USD for it.

Marty, I had read very good things about this monopod. Can you tell me how small it is in it's smallest configuration.

Steadier is better with any camera.

The G1 (like my S75) has manual controls, so if you slow things down for night shooting, etc., camera shake can be a real problem. A tripod is best, but is not always convenient to drag around and set up.

I took some night shots of the World Trade Center site that turned out very well, but suffered from camera shake. At the time, I had to stand on a barricade and lean against a fence. A monopod would have been a great help here.

I report back after I recieve the Adorama.
I'm just curious .. why do you want a monopod for a P/S camera ?..

Hi Greg L

Your Promaster T10, small compact is what I'm looking for. I'm in the UK so Iowa is a bit to far to collect! Do have the suppliers Email address?

I too was intrigued by this Adorama model but it only goes to 58 1/2" - I don't want to squat in order to use a monopod. However, there are some XL models available but these only compact to about 22" or so.

Greetings,

Someday I am going to come to your fine country and take some pictures!

As far as I know, this is the only place you can buy this model.

Good luck

Greencog,

You may want to consider the addition of a flexible rubber head that fits between your monopod purchase and your digicam. I think mine is made by Bogen/Manfrotto. they sell for about $10 US, and they allow you to angle the cameraup or down without swinging the monopod through several degrees of arc. For a light digicam they are really very stable. They add about two inches in height to the monopod but are easily removable.

I have a tilt and swivel head for my monopod which works very well with the digicam. It makes those odd angles easy to shoot.

I am using the Bogan 3259. It is used as the center post on my tripod, but is removable as a monopod. Serves great in both applications.

Manfrotto (Bogen) has an excelent monopod that I use for all of my
cameras.
