With everyone whining about Jill's ethical practices I thought we should take something productive away from these images. How in the world did she photoshop these images to give them this cartoony effect? Anyone know a source or some tips to achieve this effect?

It is probably lighting and photoshop combined.

Might look too processed but knowing how to gain this effect is worth knowing for your own photoshop skills. Surely someone knows how to get a similar effect. Lighting is going to have to be done professionally but once you peg the lighting down, what can you do to give the skin tones that feel?

There are two main things she is using:

1- The draganiizer action found here. http://www.atncentral.com/Pages/draganizer.htm

2- Use of a smudge action ot tool as found in PS CS2 (and elsewhere)

Now my opinion. I think it is over the edge. There are a half dozen well reputed photographers that are milking this to death. Keep in mind that even though it is an action, it has a LOT of stop points where artistic and photographic skills come into play. It is NOT a one minute action. Plan on spending a lot of time on each image.

Hi Steve,

Haha the draganizing, I remember that, longer time ago there was a post in the retouche forum I think and I draganized an image (can't remember how I did it) but posted an image (or maybe two) that could be used for trying to achieve the dragan effect. Funny to see now (I downloaded the action just to see how others are doing it) and found the image that I posted in the forum (on on Pbase) in that folder. Never used the effect again since that first try but I always like the challenge to see how I can reach the same effects in PS.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

In your haste to get off a whitty riposte you overlooked the fact that he didn't give an opinion at all but a statement of fact.

This forum just gets nastier every day. I don't claim to be innocent. But it would be nice to see things get a little more civil around here.

Hmmm, now I guess that was an opinion, wasn't it.
i didn't ask for your opinion either; yet you chose to give it.

How about you stop bickering kids and let those of us who have no idea what you are talking about, know.
Is there a link to this person's (who I have never heard of) work?

Brilliant site, probably the best photographer's site and easiest and fastet to view that I have encountered.

Her photography is stunning fresh, innovative, amusing and is a tribute to what we all buy these Nikons and Canons and Hassleblad's for.

As for the controversy about kids crying, we all know this is how you generate publicity and she has used this skill to her credit. The US is the suing country as we know (don't you have two lawyers to each memeber of the public?), and do we see any parents or social workers suing?
I think not.

The way she treat her photos is very old, at least by digital standard, and is common knowledge for a lot of people, there are even actions you can buy if you are interested in Ms. Greenberg treatment.

Yeah, I tried it too, just for grins to see what it was doing. I never posted an image though. Isn't it amazing how many of our images are picked off without permission!!! I almost always grant permission, but I have had dozens of my images show up all over the web - with no credit. Theft, plain and simple. By the way, nice work on an otherwise ordinary portrait. Karsh would have been proud (if he didn't know your secret). :^)
