I just read in the San Jose Mercury News that PS 7.0 will be released within the next 6 months. DOes anyone know what the newer version will include?

If not, I am sure many will want to speculate. Mark

You should see a major press release on Monday or Tuesday when MacWorld begins.

Adobe will most likely announce a Mac OS X version of Photoshop at the show, with that version being made available for Windows as well.

Photoshop is a very mature product. I'd expect that the major changes will be to work towards killing ImageReady and integrating ImageReady's features into Photoshop where they belong.

I'm sure the show will be Apple and Adobe taking about OS X + InDesign 2 + Photoshop 7 + Illustrator 10 + possibly Go Live 6 as being the way to go for true cross platform, multi language, multiple format (web, print, handheld, PDF, XML etc.) publishing.

Out of interest, it might be nice to know what version folk use. I know a few places that still run 4.0 because it does what they want.

For us RAW format users, I hope PS7 can do any image editing or manipulation in 16-bit.

I ran ver. 4.0 until about 6 months ago. Not much you can't do with ver. 4. The problem with running 4.0 is lack of upgrades by Adobe. Support is difficult to get also. Although I see where Adobe is now charging for support. If they fix a problem you pay. If not, no charge.

The junior colleges in my area are still using ver. 4.0 for their graphic classes. One is using ver. 3.0!

Another reason I changed to ver. 6 is better color management. Type handling is much better than 4. Still, I could do more with type in Fractal Painter or even older versions of WordPerfect where a bounding box of any size and shape can be created. You'd think for the high price Adobe has attached to Photoshop, you'd be able to do a lot more than the program allows.

Maybe there's some way to "fake" a text bounding box of any size and shape. I'll play with it some more.

Sincere statement, ...not sarcasm:

I am seriously envious of anyone so-skilled and able-to-fully-use all of PS6's features that they have run-up against it's limits and are itching for "MORE".

Wish I had that sort of PS-savvy.

Hat's-off to such 'pros"! :-)

Fixing the perspective correction so that it actually works all the time instead of giving obscure error messages about points not being "properly selected".

For the price I reckon they should give FREE upgrades and bug fixes.

I ran version 3 until finally switching to version 6. I agree that the colour management in ver. 6 is far more to my liking than previous. As for text handling, Adobe may be keeping it poor on purpose to get you to buy illustrator for all your text and vector needs and then exporting them to photoshop. Just a thought.

...but it's kind of a biggie.

Just as I am eagerly awaiting the availability of an EOS-1D primarily for the feature of a reduced shutter lag vs. my DCS-520, I am almost equally eagerly anticipating the announcement (at MacWorld Expo) this week of a version of Photoshop which will run on Mac OS X. I currently use 5.5 (via Classic) and probably make use of only 50% of its power, but the added power and convenience of using Photoshop in native OS X is very enticing and will have me upgrading as soon as it becomes available.

If only hardware were as easy to mass produce as software. :)
