If I bug anyone by asking for opinions, then accept my apologies...but I'm trying to learn,- (not have it done for me)-and I think having another eye to look at things can only make me better
Thanks guys for checking it out and your comments!

Basically it is just masking out the areas around the helical ribbon. I created the ribbon in Solid Edge, this a 3D modeling program we use at work for mechanical design. Since I do not know or if it is possible to create a helical ribbon in PS, I knew how in Solid Edge by using the helical protrusion tool and building it. Import that into PS and mask away.
Here is a link to a small tutorial I created that shows my basic workflow for OOB's if interested:
Serrator - might take me a while to get used to the spiral effect but many of the other pic's on your web site are just Out Of .... well this world I think!!
Particularily love the lynx coming out the page - excellent work - and some of the bird pic's are extremely well done as well ;-)))
Couldn't get your tutorial link to take me anywhere and would love to better understand how to do this?
WineO...I would be interested in your Illustrator results. Let me know of your progress if you don't mind. There maybe an action that makes spirals in PS, I need to look. Anyone else know?
