Outside our bedroom window is a large tree that supports a bird feeder and one for hummers. This morning we observed hiding in the upper branches our local resident hawk. I'm sure he was waiting for an opportunity for a meal. Blends in well in the large photo.

Taken in a hurry with new H5 so apologise for the window reflection and OOF but still an interesting scene.

It makes sense to hang out near a feeder if you are a hawk, but I've never seen that before. It's a great catch.

Do you have squirrels or chipmunks around there? I ask because I suspect the hawk is looking for those that might feed on the ground under the feeders instead of the birds.

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.

Thanks. No ground squirrels or others but a number of sparrows, doves and quail do feed on the ground under the feeder. The finches throw a lot of food around.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's a coopers hawk. He hangs around regularly and some times scares birds into commiting suicide into our bay window. Then picks up the dead from the pato. Smart bird.
