This must be a repitition of subject, but I couldn't help but express my excitement. I just ordered the D50 with kit!

I know all the focus is now on D80, and you might think why did I purchase a D50 now... but this is my first DSLR and I decided D50 is the camera for me.

I have been going through rhis forum for last few months. The information and help available here is just awesome.

Thanks to all for all your advise.

Don't worry - the D50 really does rock. Sure, there's some features that it lacks versus the D80, but it probably has everything you need for the next while anyways (and by the time you grow out of it, the D80 will be priced just about right!). And you can be guaranteed of one thing: the D50 provides excellent image quality.

Have fun!

Congrats! You've made a fine choice.

I've had my D50 (w/kit lens) for a bit more than three weeks now - I love it! What a great camera it is. I've got no interest in the D80 at the moment. I'm so satisfied with my D50 I don't imagine I'll outgrow it anytime soon, but I do intend to get a new lens or three over the next six months (starting with the Nikkor 18-70mm)...

Regards,

Doug

Hi…

Congratulations on getting a great camera….. Don't worry too much about the hype of the D80, as the D50 is one excellent camera, and will do everything you want.

Now the only thing that you should be worried about, is how long before you will get the dreaded “LENS LUST”… and you will..!!!! Then look out wallet / credit card….…LOL

Anyway, welcome and I’m sure if you have any questions or problems, all the good folk here on this forum will try and help you out……

The D50 is indeed a fine camera and will serve you well for many years.

Just remember that was well as Lens Lust there is a second more pervasive illness that afflicts Nikon owners - NAS.

NAS starts in subtle ways - you have difficulty walking past camera shops without going in, you start sweating when you camera is out of arms reach, you start thinking of your bank balance in terms of what accessories you can afford and your browser favorites folder looks like a Nikon catalogue but unfortunately in many cases it gets worse so be prepared to go for the ride it's a good one.

Anyone's excited when they've ordered a new camera.

Part of the attention is because it's new. Part of it is because it's got more features and quite a few people here really love features.

Well, charge the battery and start shooting!

I hope to get a D50 from Santa... Any comments on which
of the following combinations are best/not so best would be
welcome. I plan to shoot family stuff, landscapes, trains etc..

D50 + 18-55 kit lens £399
D50 + 18-70 £489
D50 + 18-55 + 55-200 £548

I think I like the look of the 18-70 at the moment.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill

I would go for the 18-70 combo (as this is a great quality lens), and then look later at getting a longer lens after you get a good feel of the camera and what end of the range you like more (wide or long)...
