Hi!

Is there someone who had been using a Canon 420EX together with the UZI.

I am thinking of buying a loose Rowi hotshoe for the UZI but I dont know how the UZI will comunicate with the flash.

I've got a 420EX for my EOS, and an E-100RS. I considered the combo, but am almost sure it can't work. The 420EX has no user controlable settings. And the Olys do not offer full auto with non-Oly flash.

But, I've also got an old Sunpak. Having found its trigger voltage to be 12v, I'm about ready to shell out the $40 (what a cruel joke) for the Oly cable, to give it a try.

I have used the Canon 420EZ with my UZi in manual mode. I have tried to get the pinouts for the Canon flash foot and the UZi 5 pin TTL connector with no luck from either company. I don't believe the TTL functions will work between the two.

I did get the flash sync pin numbers for the UZi and the + sync is on pin 3 and the - sync is on pin 2. The pins are counted as follows: Hold the camera looking into the TTL connector, then point the lens to the ceiling (vertical 90 degrees), pin one is the bottom pin to your left, then count in a clockwise direction.

I made myself an adapter cable for the flash sync and now I fire my 420EZ using the adapter and a folding bracket. I just couldn't see paying $40 US for a cable that I could make myself.

I now have an external flash that has a guide number of 138 and can compensate for power needs because it allows you to select from full power all the way down to 1/32 power and it allows you to select your zoom head from 24 mm to 80 mm, it also has the strobe ability to fire at 1 to 5 pulses per second.

Intriguing. Were you able to find a moulded plug end -- I'm thinking thin, flat, 2-pin -- that fits inside the Oly socket, on those 2 pins?

No, I found two female pins that fit the males in the camera and crimped wires to them then used heat shrink tubing to insulate them from each other. I then drilled a small hole in the TTL socket cover ran the wires through the hole, then put the flash connector on the other end of the wires and RTV glued the connector to the side of the camera. Now all I have to do to use an external flash is pull out my bracket plug it in to the camera connector and mount the flash to the bracket and it is ready to go.

Thanks all for helping me out here.
I think I will let my G2 do all the flashpictures as this works great.

Thought it would be great to have a proper flash on the UZI aswell but right now I find it a bit to mutch work to make my own stuff and i find the Oly flash to expensive as I dont know what the brand of my next camera will be.
