Hi all. could you guys please help me identify the problem with this 2x Tele Lens. Is it me or the lens just simply not compatible with the FZ30?

I bought this off the beachcamera site. Hooked a 55 to 58 mm lens adapter. Put this 2x lens on. Changed the settings to Tele on the camera. Hand held the camera did a full 12x (24X) zoom and got these completely outa Focus pics:-(

Ok..then i thought well may be its just the full zoom and a hand shake or jitter from my body movement. Since i dont have a tripod i put the camera on a big carton. did a 10 second auto timer shot again on a full zoom same outa focus pics:-(

camera settings on auto and the AF macro was on. Can anyone shed some light ont this issue please. Again i am thinking its this cheap 2X tele lens 90$.

Also while holding the camera i noticed that the FZ30 was taking lot longer to focus (or trying to focus) like about 3 or 4 seconds and just locked green on these puta focus shots.

I have another .5X wide angle Lens from same company digital optics that seems to be working good though. (Digital Optics
Professional .5x Wide Angle Lens w/ Macro - for 58mm threading (Black)
Requires the 55/58 step-up-ring) 100$

not all teleconverters work with all cameras... some won't allow the lens to focus some will give really poor results...

for the FZ line its best to stick with the 1.4, 1.5 and 1.7x teleconverters... the raynox 2.2x will work but the quality is poor

this should provide a decent guide to teleconverters

the camera and subject? Does your camera show it has a focus lock? The problem is not due to hand/camera shake. It is due to the camera did not have a focus lock. Try to shoot something at infinity (e.g., moon, far mountain, house far away, ...) and make sure the camera gives you a focus lock. If you could not have a focus lock, it is the lens problem and you should return the lens asap. By the way, you don't have to use the teleconverter setting. Check my FZ-30 user guide for better teleconverters. Digital Optics are usually expensive paper weights.

If it won't focus it is not compatible with your camera, return it.

Beware auxiliary lenses with the words Crystal, Titanium or Professional in their name...........

I was also reading the same that not all lenses are going to work work with all cameras. The way it was explained to me is that the distance must be right from the accessory len the the prime len if not they will never focus properly. Most of the time that is why you usually stick with the lenses from the manufacture form the camera you are using just like the one fellow said sometimes it is hit and miss. But when you have someone like Ching-Kuang Shene answer your question it is pretty final right there.

Hi,

I don´t know if you typed it wrong when you say "camera settings on auto and the AF macro was on." but you´re using a tele lens right?

So if you set AF macro w/ tele lens you´ll get these pics you´ve posted here ´cause the cam will be focusing at close range (to macro pic not tele).
Try not setting it to macro.

I hope it´s just this simple adjustment so you won´t have to spend more money buying a new lens ;)
Or you can always try manual focusing

TY all for teh help. CK> > > i tried to lock on theinfinity distance objects as well such as a mountain and so on...still no lock from the auto focus. I will return the lens. Ty for the advice sir appreciate it.

That should not make a difference on the FZ50. The AF Macro setting is the setting that tells the camera to try to lock focus on anything from macro to infinity. The standard AF tells the camera to only try to focus on subjects from about 4 feet away to infinity. Standard AF is just a fraction of a second faster to lock AF than AF Macro because the camera isn't searching the macro distances for something to lock the focus onto.

That said, I just leave AF Macro on when using my FZ50 and all my photos from closeups to landscapes are tack sharp.

Just a note: I have the cheap Digital Optics 2x lens and a Bower adapter tube for my FZ20 and it works, although I have to go to Macro setting on the program dial for anything under several hundred feet. BUT, only the center portion of the picture is in focus, this is really a cheap lens. I sent the first one back, and the replacement is the same, good in the center and more soft/blurred away from the center.
